Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serves as subject matter expert for project teams on GIS, updating and training stakeholders (contractors, owners, etc.) as appropriate.
  • Supports development of GIS Technician I, outside plant technicians and other project stakeholders.
  • Researches emerging GIS technologies to recommend best practices and areas of continuous improvement.
  • Suggests or proposes changes to the existing project templates and styles.
  • Defines GIS product needs by request.
  • Creates GIS tables for map data.
  • Prepares finished drawings from sketches, notes, layouts, details, and verbal instructions for various field and office staff.
  • Analyzes sketches, notes, and other input material to determine and plan the best approach to develop and complete the drawings.
  • Prepares construction units and progress reports for both the client and CNE.
  • Develops and supports geographic databases.
  • Converts CADD/GIS files between various formats.
  • Prepares mapping exhibits for use by project staff in proposals, presentations, and other project related work.
  • Prepares GIS shapefile and attribute data by means of available datasets, including, but not limited to modifying existing GIS data or drawing/digitizing map features from hard copy material or sketches.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Skills/Qualifications:

  • High School/GED required.
  • Associate degree in Telecommunications, Drafting or Construction Management preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years of similar work experience.
  • Knowledge of CADD Operations, including AutoCAD and/or ESRI GIS products (Arc GIS Pro, Arc GIS Online, Experience Builder, Dashboards, Survey 123).
  • Knowledge of telecommunications industry/Rural Utilities Service design standards.
  • Proficient computer skills (Office, Visio, and AutoCAD preferred).
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks.
  • Ability to present recommendations and findings to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Prior to employment, must pass a background search.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clear driving record. Must be insurable.
  • Willingness to travel as needed. Travel will vary and is estimated to be approximately 2-3 times/month.
  • Ability to attend in-person meetings as necessary.
