Travel Required - Will work in Bastrop location and travel to Marion one day a week

The Dental Services Program Coordinator is responsible for the development, training, and implementation of the dental services, in accordance with current applicable Federal, State, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations, as well as, the performance of selected dental assistance and administrative/clerical duties that assist in patient care management and collaborates with Administration, Management and Clinical Staff. This position requires compliance with CommuniHealth Services (CHS) written standards, including the Compliance Plan and policies and procedures (including the Code of Conduct), as well as assistance in the continuous monitoring, reporting and corrective action processes of corporate compliance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Functions within the scope of their approved competency skills checklist.

2. Uses personal protective equipment to protect patients and self from infectious diseases.

3. Sterilizes, disinfects, and sets up instruments for dental procedures.

4. Examines teeth, gums, and related tissues to evaluate dental health, diagnose diseases or abnormalities.

5. Polishes teeth and applies fluoride and sealant using dental instruments.

6. Schedules patient appointments and procedures.

7. Interviews patients to gather medical information.

8. Records treatment information and maintains patient records, including medical and dental histories.

9. Takes patient vital signs.

10. Processes dental diagnostic x-rays.

11. Provides postoperative instructions prescribed by dentist.

12. Makes preliminary impressions for study casts and occlusal registrations for mounting study casts.

13. Pours, trims, and polishes study casts.

14. Advises or instructs patients on dental care, causes and treatment of dental problems, or oral health care services.

15. Orders and monitors dental supplies and equipment inventory.

16. Maintains strictest confidentiality and adheres to all HIPAA guidelines/regulations as well as compliance with HRSA regulations.

Management and Operations

1. Develops procedures and auditing processes to ensure the dental program complies with and captures applicable data for organizational reporting requirements.

2. Provides initial and ongoing training to the dental team to ensure they meet or exceed job expectations and CommuniHealth Services’ Customer Service Excellence Standards.

3. Responsible for the development and ongoing maintenance/updates of policies and procedures for the dental program and ongoing oversight/monitoring to ensure consistent implementation among the dental staff across the organization.

4. Responsible for Quality Assurance audits as it relates to the dental program and the timely reporting of data to the Clinical Performance Improvement Committee.

5. Facilitates organizational compliance with federal and state laws, HRSA, and other such regulatory agencies for duties that fall under the Dental Program.

6. Recruits, educates, trains, and maintains a quality team of full-time dental assistants.

7. Coordinates and completes dental schedules and payroll.

8. Obtains certifications, competency testing and updated licensures for dental team.

9. Develops and makes recommendations for improvements to business processes, policies and infrastructure to improve operational efficiency for the dental program.

10. Completes required CHS training per policy, maintains compliance with and knowledge of all CHS departmental, facility specific and system-wide policy and procedure, attends mandatory departmental meetings and/or training, and follows CHS Mission, Vision and Values in delivery of all services.

11. Reports program data to the Executive Management Team on an ongoing basis.

12. Collaborates with the Executive Management Team, Clinical Directors, Program Coordinators and Site Managers to identify/resolve program related problems and to achieve synergy in functions and eliminate inefficiencies in center operations.

13. Participates in all appropriate meetings within the organization.

14. Maintains a working knowledge of all health information management issues such as HIPAA, Corporate Compliance, and other such healthcare regulations.

15. This position requires work beyond normal working hours.

16. Performs other duties as may be assigned.

Clinical Education and Operations

1. Develops, maintains, and implements dental policies and procedures that conform to current standards of the dental practice, facility philosophy including the Mission, Vision and Values of CommuniHealth Services, and operational policies while maintaining compliance with state and federal laws and regulations.

2. Develops and implements the dental services program in-service/education to equip dental staff with sufficient knowledge and skills to perform their respective job duties.

3. Communicates, interprets and provides training to dental staff on CommuniHealth Services’ clinical/dental policies and procedures and monitors staff practices and implementation.

4. Demonstrates knowledge and application of Key Clinical Quality Indicators, and proactively monitors and implements systems to achieve and/or surpass company thresholds.

5. Coordinates and/or develops on-going QA activities for dental services to monitor dental assistance compliance with standards and regulatory requirements through rounds, interviews, and record reviews.

6. Monitors dental staff for compliance with OSHA mandates and facility policies on workplace safety. Proactively develops procedures to promote workplace safety and safe work practices.

7. Promotes compliance with accident prevention procedures, safety rules, and safe work practices to prevent employee injury and illness and control worker’s compensation costs.

8. Establishes, implements, and monitors the infection control program designed to provide a safe, sanitary, and comfortable environment designed to prevent the misuse and transmission of disease and infection.

9. Promotes customer service and hospitality and responds to and adequately resolves complaints or concerns patients or families may have about dental services.

10. Attends and participates in continuing educational programs designed to keep you abreast of changes in your profession.

11. In addition to the outlined duties above, as a patient centered medical home, the incumbent fulfills the principles and theories outlined in organizational policies including assisting navigating patients as needed through the health system, making appropriate referrals to case/care management, communicating with the healthcare team to address patient/family/caregiver specific needs, etc.

Education:

1. Graduation from an accredited program for Dental Hygiene or Expanded Duty Dental Assistant.

2. Current Louisiana dental certificate/license.

3. Current CPR certification

Skills/Experience:

1. Must be able to read, write, and speak the English language in an understandable manner.

2. Five (5) years clinical experience required.

3. Clinical and Supervisory experience preferred.

4. Must possess the ability to plan, organize, develop, teach, implement, and assess programs, goals, objective, policies and procedures, etc., necessary for the delivery of appropriate and timely dental services.

5. Must be able to use personal computer and demonstrate intermediate or greater proficiency in MS Outlook, Word, and Excel in performing job duties

Environmental/Working Conditions:

1. Works in a well-lighted/ventilated office area of the facility.

2. Is subject to frequent interruptions.

3. Is involved with personnel, patients, visitors, government agencies/personnel, etc., under all conditions/circumstances.

4. Is subject to hostile and emotionally upset personnel, patients, visitors, etc.

5. Is willing to work beyond normal working hours: weekends, holidays, and other shifts/positions as necessary.

6. Attends and participates in continuing educational programs designed to keep you abreast of changes in your profession.

7. Is subject to cuts, bruises, falls, burns from equipment, odors, etc., throughout the work day.

8. May be exposed to blood borne pathogens, infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc., including the potential exposure to the AIDS and Hepatitis B viruses.

Physical Demands:

1. Significant amount of time standing and using equipment with hands.

2. Must be able to handle occasional lifting, pulling, climbing, and stooping.

3. Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.

4. Must be able to quickly and repeatedly adjust the controls of a machine to exact positions.

5. Must be able to quickly move hands/hands together with arms or two hands to grasp, manipulate or assemble objects.

6. Must be able to function independently, have personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with patients, personnel, and support agencies.

7. Must be able to relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and at times hostile people within the facility.
