Community Action Stops Abuse (CASA)

Founded in 1977, CASA is the official 501c3 domestic violence center based in Pinellas County, FL. We operate the area’s 24-hour hotline and emergency shelter; non-residential programs, such as support groups, economic empowerment and legal advocacy; Child Protective Investigative Team support; community and corporate training; and the CASA Peacemakers anti-bullying and healthy relationship school curriculum.

Position Title: Transitional Housing Advocate

Reports To: Transitional and Permanent Housing Manager

Major Function: To provide case management, advocacy and crisis intervention to survivors of domestic violence and their children in the transitional housing program.

FLSA: Non-Exempt

ILLUSTRATIVE DUTIES:

  • Provide crisis intervention, community referrals, and criminal justice advocacy as needed to program participants.
  • Provide support, education, and case management to adults in the transitional housing program.
  • Provide orientation of transitional housing program to potential new residents
  • Initiate and complete lease documents and guidelines;
  • Complete all required paper work and data entry in a timely manner.
  • Work with residents to assist them in assessing their needs, developing and implementing a goal plan, budgeting assistance, and supporting their progress through regularly scheduled meetings.
  • Transport and accompany residents and their children, in CASA vehicles as needed.
  • Advocate and coordinate services with community agencies through referrals and monitoring service delivery to meet the goals of each resident.
  • Provide adult and youth support group facilitation and oversee life skills groups.
  • Provide a written monthly progress for the resident files and participate in case reviews on a regular basis.
  • Complete all monthly record keeping and statistics in a timely manner.
  • Clean and prepare rooms to receive new intakes by stocking with necessary supplies and ensuring rooms are in order and ready for the individual or family.
  • Maintain cleanliness and upkeep of all areas designated for use by participants.
  • Ensure that the pantry and fridge are stocked with a variety of appropriate foods and basic needs items at all times.
  • Monitor and inventory the level of food, linens, personal care items, and general supplies.
  • Must be able to work within an empowerment-based service delivery system.
  • Provide back-up assistance with hotline calls as needed.
  • All other duties as assigned.

GENERAL:

  • Participate in staff meetings.
  • Understand and abide by CASA’s Confidentiality Policy at all times and respect boundaries.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to treat residents, volunteers, and co-workers in a respectful manner at all times.
  • Attend and participate in all required trainings.
  • Assist with training and supervision of volunteers.
  • Agree to work a flexible schedule when required, which may include changing shifts to ensure coverage, due to illness, absence, or vacation other staff members.
  • Complete special projects and presentations as requested.
  • Must report to work as an emergency essential personnel during emergencies.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree preferred, or equivalent life experience.
  • Experience working with survivors of domestic violence or other crisis experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of community resources and the ability to maintain working relationships with other agencies.
  • Ability to lift up to fifty (50) pounds.
  • Willingness to drive agency vehicles as needed.
  • Must have direct access to reliable transportation during all working hours.
  • Ability to function independently and work cooperatively as a member of a team.
  • Valid Florida State Driver's License to be verified annually.
  • Participate in a background check and fingerprinting upon employment.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $20.00 - $21.00 per year
