Job Summary

The Housing Relocation Advocate is responsible for assisting individuals and families in securing safe, affordable, and sustainable housing. This role focuses on supporting clients in crisis, including those fleeing domestic violence, homelessness, or other challenging circumstances. The advocate will work collaboratively with clients, landlords, community organizations, and service providers to overcome housing barriers and promote long-term housing stability.

Key Responsibilities
Client Support and Advocacy:
  • Conduct initial intake assessments to understand clients’ housing needs, preferences, and challenges.
  • Develop personalized housing plans, including short-term relocation strategies and long-term housing goals.
  • Assist clients in searching for housing, completing rental applications, and navigating landlord requirements.
  • Advocate on behalf of clients with landlords, property managers, and housing authorities.
  • Provide clients with information on tenants’ rights and responsibilities.
Community Collaboration and Networking:
  • Establish and maintain relationships with landlords, property managers, and housing agencies to identify potential housing opportunities.
  • Collaborate with local shelters, legal aid organizations, and service providers to coordinate comprehensive support for clients.
  • Facilitate connections to additional resources such as financial assistance, employment support, or childcare services.
Education and Empowerment:
  • Conduct workshops or one-on-one sessions on housing readiness topics, including budgeting, lease agreements, and maintaining housing.
  • Provide crisis intervention and emotional support to clients during the relocation process.
  • Empower clients to advocate for themselves and make informed decisions about their housing options.
Documentation and Reporting:
  • Maintain accurate and confidential client records in compliance with organizational and legal standards.
  • Track and report on program outcomes, including the number of clients served, housing placements, and barriers addressed.
Program Development and Improvement:
  • Identify gaps in housing services and recommend strategies to enhance program effectiveness.
  • Stay informed about local housing policies, rental market trends, and resources to better serve clients.
  • Support fundraising or advocacy efforts related to housing initiatives as needed.

Qualifications Required:
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Human Services, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in housing services, case management, or advocacy.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trust with clients and stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in using case management software and standard office tools (e.g., Microsoft Office, Google Workspace).

Preferred:
  • Experience working with vulnerable populations, including survivors of domestic violence, individuals experiencing homelessness, or those with low income.
  • Bilingual or multilingual proficiency.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed care principles.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to address housing barriers creatively.
  • High level of cultural competency and sensitivity to the needs of diverse populations.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Working Conditions
  • May require travel within the community to meet clients or engage with landlords.
  • Flexibility to work occasional evenings or weekends based on client needs.
  • Physical demands include carrying outreach materials, climbing stairs, or assisting clients during home visits.
