This position of Client Health Records Specialist is responsible for responding to all external information requests for client records, documents these disclosures, and maintains records of incidental disclosures and other compliance related responsibilities. Articulate and actively promote the consumer’s perspective and rights in interactions with consumers and co-workers.
Demonstrate consistent compliance with applicable laws, regulations and organizational policies including consumer rights in responding to client record requests; complete with high degree of accuracy and conformance with client and/or legal representative’s authorization.
Assist in the facilitation of client requests for access to their records.
Demonstrate support and leadership in initiating programmatic processes and change to improve effectiveness in areas of responsibility.
Analyze and complete client record requests in a timely and accurate manner.
Demonstrate and utilize analytical skills to gather information on HIPAA and client confidentiality laws to stay abreast of new requirements.
Demonstrate and utilize effective oral and written communication skills.
Serve as effective advocate for persons with serious mental illness and co-occurring mental illness and substance use in one’s position and while representing or associated with the organization in the community.
Assume responsibility and successfully complete all mandatory training requirements related to initial orientation and annual mandatory training, identify additional training and development needs and communicate same with supervisor.
Demonstrate and maintain functional computer skills, including orientation to privacy and security standards, internet usage and use of electronic health record.
Associate degree or experience in healthcare, behavioral healthcare or other field relevant to position.
Demonstrated understanding and commitment to organizational mission and values, and the principles of recovery.
Demonstrated ability to apply analytical thinking and practical problem-solving skills to complex situations and communicate with internal and external stakeholders in a highly ethical and effective manner.
Knowledge of HIPPA and client confidentiality laws.
Demonstrated ability to research, understand and apply legal, regulatory, ethical, and programmatic standards in a manner that advances client rights and recovery process.
Ability to understand, utilize, and navigate a range of software applications, including Microsoft Word and Excel, the organization’s electronic health record, and document management and indexing software.
Demonstrated ability to initiate, organize and complete tasks in areas of responsibility, organize self and others, independently problem-solve and make decisions, consistently meet deadlines, handle rush projects, handle multiple priorities, and function under time constraints.
Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing on a consistent basis.
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and within a team environment.
Ability to transport self to and from Community Alliance sites and throughout the metro Omaha area to perform position responsibilities, including possession of valid driver’s license, good driving record, and reliable transportation or the ability to arrange for such on a regular basis.
