CBAM Lab Operations Supervisor

This is a grant funded position with funding secured through September 30, 2029.

SCOPE OF WORK: The Lab Operations Supervisor for the Center for Biofabrication and Advanced Manufacturing (C-BAM) is responsible for overseeing the establishment and development of the lab facilities, overseeing project timelines, coordinating equipment acquisition, and ensuring alignment with the C-BAM mission and goals. This role involves collaborating closely with the Principal Investigator (PI) to manage the development of CBAM facilities and lab activities within the grant budget and achieve its objectives. This position will report to the Principal Investigator and will be located at Manchester Community College.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Collaborates with the PI in the planning, development, and establishment of C-BAM lab facilities, ensuring alignment with project timelines, budgets, and goals.
  • Coordinates the acquisition, installation, and setup of lab equipment, working with vendors, contractors, and other stakeholders to meet project specifications.
  • Develops and manages project plans, schedules, and budgets in close collaboration with the PI, ensuring timely completion of milestones and deliverables.
  • Collaborates with faculty, staff, and industry partners to ensure the lab design and equipment align with academic, research, and workforce development needs.
  • Monitors project progress, identifies risks, and implements mitigation strategies to keep the project on track and within budget.
  • Ensures compliance with safety regulations and industry standards during the lab buildout and equipment placement phases.
  • Prepares the lab environment for operational use, including the development of safety protocols, workflows, and organizational systems. Responsible for maintaining and modifying protocols as needed.
  • Supervises lab staff and supports the recruitment and onboarding of lab staff and technical personnel.
  • Develops and maintains documentation related to project plans, equipment specifications, and operational procedures. Monitors and makes appropriate modifications to daily lab operations as needed throughout the length of the grant.
  • Remains current with trends and advancements in biofabrication and advanced manufacturing to inform lab development and project decisions.
  • Participates in special projects or initiatives related to the development and growth of the C-BAM center.
  • Complies with all college, system, state and federal rules and regulations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned,

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant field, such as Biotechnology, Biofabrication, Advanced Manufacturing, Engineering, or a closely related discipline. Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required experience.

Experience: Three (3) years’ experience in laboratory development, biotechnology, advanced manufacturing, or related fields, with project management and supervisory experience. Each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.

Licensure/Certifications: Valid driver’s license or access to transportation for travel between campus facilities, if required.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge of biofabrication technologies and equipment, including biotechnologies, 3D printing, robotics, and CNC machines. Familiarity with safety standards relevant to biotechnology labs and advanced manufacturing environments.

RECOMMENDED WORK TRAITS: Knowledge of laboratory operations, including equipment maintenance, safety protocols, and inventory management. Ability to supervise a team, including students and support staff, ensuring adherence to lab policies and procedures. Ability to troubleshoot and problem-solve for both equipment and technical issues in a lab setting. Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally and to work with diverse populations. Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities and to meet established deadlines. Ability to work independently and as a member of a team. Ability to exercise proper judgment and to make decisions with minimal supervision. Ability to address matters with tact and diplomacy and to maintain confidentiality. A demonstrated commitment to maintaining a safe, clean, and well-organized lab environment that meets all safety standards.
