JOB OVERVIEW:
Ensure a clean, safe, and well-maintained physical learning environment for CCSD 46, supporting educational goals by managing facilities, grounds, and custodial services. Supervise staff and oversee operational efficiency to align with the district’s vision for high standards in safety, sustainability, and learning support.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience qualifications include:
- At least three years’ experience in facilities management, including supervisory roles, HVAC expertise, preventive maintenance, coordination of facilities, with responsibility for custodial/maintenance services, landscaping and construction
- Experience working with architects, engineers and other professional services related to capital projects and repairs
- Professional licensure in HVAC, electrical, or plumbing preferred
- High School diploma or equivalent required, Associates Degree preferred
Knowledge qualifications include:
- Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, general maintenance and HVAC. Have a strong understanding of building automation systems (BAS) and be able to read and understand schematics and blueprints
- Knowledge of principles and practices related to the management of maintenance, custodial, warehouse, and landscape activities.
- Knowledge of local, state and national building codes.
- Knowledge of federal, state, and district policies, regulations, and laws pertaining to job functions.
- Positive interpersonal and communication skills, oral and written, to work professionally with staff and experience establishing effective and collaborative relationships with community members and other agencies.
- Ability to communicate, interact and work effectively and cooperatively with people from diverse ethnic and educational backgrounds.
- Must have good people skills, be able to manage people effectively and help the team be successful.
- Technical competencies in a variety of areas including the use of technology, mathematics skills, writing, organization, problem-solving, project management, and record keeping.
- Experience in preparing and maintaining accurate records.
- Experience in the operation of standard office equipment and computers, including spreadsheets and word processing software.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality related to personnel and other District records and information.
- Have a valid Illinois driver’s license and ability to respond to 24-hour per day emergency calls and implement appropriate response actions.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supervise, train, and evaluate operations and maintenance staff, manage hiring, transfers, and performance
- Maintain and monitor systems for HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and district wide safety protocols
- Collaborate on budgeting, procurement and accounting to ensure efficient operations within financial guidelines
- Conduct regular inspections to maintain safety and compliance with local, state, and national standards
- Oversee staffing and support for district events, ensuring facilities preparedness
- Manages the district sustainability efforts, including solar, energy management and composting
- Utilize scheduling systems to support events and space management efficiently
- Duties as assigned by the Superintendent or supervisor
- Must have good leadership skills
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The usual and customary methods of performing the job functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting (50 lbs or more occasionally), carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, frequent climbing and balancing, frequent stopping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling, and some fine finger dexterity. The job is performed under some temperature extremes and under conditions with exposure to risk of injury and/or illness.
SALARY
Regionally competitive. Based on experience.
