Position Description
The Director of Childcare Programs is responsible for the operational and programmatic success of our Childcare Program, which encompasses Early Childhood Education/Preschool (3yr and 4K) and Elementary Afterschool Programming. The Director ensures GCC’s program provides high-quality learning and programming options, monitors and improves classroom and teacher performance, reports on deliverables to maintain funding follows the city and state accreditation/licensing guidelines, and offers supervision and support to teachers.
Essential Functions
- Provide overall supervision and leadership of Childcare Programs.
- Onboard program staff to the organization and the program’s requirements, including accreditation/licensing.
- Establish, maintain, track, and grow training for staff’s professional development and reinforce standards set by accreditation/licensing.
- Knowledge of State Childcare Licensing and City of Madison Accreditation guidelines.
- Knowledge of Conscious Discipline, Positive Youth Development, youth engagement, and alternative educational approaches.
- CLC Knowledge
- Represented childcare programs at senior leadership team meetings and other GCC meetings.
- Conduct regular staff check-ins and scheduled one-on-one meetings with staff, engaging in SMART goal setting and the annual review process.
- Ensure programs meet classroom capacity for enrollment, recruiting families from surrounding neighborhoods.
- Lead staff meetings, collecting agenda items and hot topics from staff, participants, parents, and accreditation/licensing liaisons.
- Own initial family communications for all program participants, promptly addressing needs and concerns.
- Primary Director for staff accountability, coaching, discipline, and payroll/PTO.
- Coach staff on classroom instruction, Social Emotional Learning Techniques, and assessing child’s needs.
- Conduct required safety checks, maintaining a safe environment for children and staff.
- Measure and report on required data for program funding and quality assurance, including Childcare Counts.
- Establish, maintain, and grow partnerships through School Connects for purposeful programming.
- Coordinate the scheduling of program activities, including staff training and childcare field trips, ensuring safety, compliance, and cross-departmental communication of changes to the regular schedule.
- Reconcile childcare receipts as needed and co-manage childcare budget.
- Maintain Childcare Handbook for compliance and accuracy.
- Maintain emergency contact information and classroom binders.
- Maintain compliant childcare folders, including background checks, fingerprinting, training updates, staff performance, and Registry maintenance.
- Manage systems for assessment and organizational needs, including Concur, Cyan, and City Span, training applicable childcare staff on use.
- Perform reporting for Monthly CACFP (Free/Reduced) reports.
- Write quarterly city grant reports highlighting work done by Early Childhood Education staff toward kindergarten readiness and social-emotional learning.
- Provide communications with at least quarterly photos and descriptions of activities taking place in classrooms.
- Work with Enrollment & Shares Specialist to collect Household Income Statement forms from families and complete the authorization section.
- Perform other job-related duties as required or assigned within this position’s responsibilities.
Requirements
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Education or other related field and/or equivalent experience.
- At least 3 years of experience in a team management role.
- Experience working with children ages 3-12
- Ability to interpret complex federal, state, and private funding regulations and guidelines.
- Demonstrated success in developing and evaluating program models, selecting and successfully operationalizing innovative programs.
- Strength in managing, developing, coaching, and retaining individuals and teams.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and a commitment to and passion for the Goodman Community Center’s mission.
- Ability to translate strategic goals into achievable steps.
- Required to pass Child Care Division Central Background Registry.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Ability to work in multiple environments (i.e., indoors, outdoors, schools, office, and remotely).
- Maintain a flexible work schedule to meet the demands of management.
