Description
Function: The Staff Accountant is responsible for supporting the accounting needs of the Community Food Bank (CFB), as well as special projects that may arise.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Monitors transactions between Blackbaud Raisers Edge (RE) and Blackbaud Financial Edge (FE) for daily donations.
- Reconciles daily donations to Bank account transactions in FE.
- On a monthly basis, reconcile the Fundraising revenue in Financial Edge to the Fundraising revenue in Raiser’s Edge. Work with Development to post any corrections in RE.
- Completes assigned monthly bank reconciliations for Bank of America (Operating, Payables, Section 125).
- Records all Farmer’s Market transactions in the financial system.
- Records required journal entries and reconciles bank account for Avanzando with Bank of America).
- Completes assigned account reconciliations each month.
- Invoices for goods and services rendered, including senior meals.
- Reconciles gift card balances.
- Submits periodic tax filings including transaction privilege and quarterly excise tax.
- Acts as a backup for various functions for the Quality Control Analyst, Accounts Payable Administrator, and Accounting Support Specialist.
- Assists Finance Team in the preparation of monthly and yearly closings.
- Prepares for internal and external audits.
- Ensures uniformity and accuracy of transaction coding in the financial system.
- Ensures compliance with state and federal regulations and law.
- Responsible for working effectively with key management, team members, staff and volunteers.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of monitoring transactions through third party software and internal financial systems for daily donations.
- Knowledge of reconciling daily donations to bank account transactions through internal financial systems.
- Attention to detail skills for researching and resolving issues.
- Ability to prepare for internal and external audits.
- Ability to work without a high-level of direction.
- Self-motivator and takes initiative.
- Life-long learner and ability to incorporate new information.
- Demonstrated interest in learning internally and externally and incorporating new information into role.
- Ability to work with people from diverse economic, social, and political backgrounds.
Minimum Qualifications:
- A high school diploma or equivalent.
- Two (2) years of experience in Accounting/Finance.
- Knowledge of accounting standards and compliance issues, particularly those related to NPO’s.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Office 365, and aptitude to learn other software platforms.
- For company insurance purposes, at least 21 years of age; possess a current Arizona Driver’s License with a safe driving record.
Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered if applicable and must be directly related to the functions and body of knowledge required to successfully perform the job.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish.
Physical Requirements:
- Light Work – ability to exert 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
