As the Food Pantry Specialist, you will be responsible for supporting and implementing CFBNJ’s direct service programs at the Garfield Unity Pantry in Garfield, NJ. Support of this program involves daily on-site operation of the pantry as well as relevant administrative duties. You will work closely with food insecure neighbors, directly oversee volunteers, work closely with multiple CFBNJ departments, and liaise with organizational partners as part of the Unity Health Partnership campus.
What you’ll do in your role:
- Support Assistant Director in administrative responsibilities including record keeping, reporting and planning.
- Act as a keyholder with regular responsibility for opening and closing the facility.
- Act as primary point of contact for neighbors, volunteers, vendors and organizational partners at least one day a week and/or whenever the Assistant Director is offsite or unavailable.
- Have the ability to oversee operations and prioritize tasks while managing the pantry floor. This includes unloading deliveries, sorting and weighing gleanings, and organizing inventory.
- Implement neighbor intake, check out and online ordering processes while providing stellar customer service

What you’ll need to be successful in this role:
- Bilingual or multilingual skills (English plus Spanish) are required.
- Previous experience working in retail, specifically a food store or food pantry.
- Driver’s license and willingness to drive a sprinter van.
- Ability to bend, stand, and lift at least 50 lbs. Frequently.
- Knowledge of Chromebook/Gmail platforms and Microsoft Office Applications.
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Experience working in underserved communities and with people from a variety of backgrounds: diverse client populations, community organizations, government officials, vendors, and staff at all levels.
Pay Transparency: The salary range for this position is $52,638 -$71,216. The final rate may be influenced by factors such as the position's scope and responsibilities, work experience, training, job-related skills, internal equity, and market conditions.
