About the Opportunity
This temporary, full-time position will be available April – December 2025 to cover an employee leave. There is also the potential for full-time, regular employment in January 2026 in a different capacity.

Job Overview
The Interim Director of Trust Services is responsible for the successful, accurate, and timely administration of every aspect of the Community Fund trust lifecycle.

Duties

  • Review and approve Joinder Applications as submitted by the Trust Development Supervisor. This includes legal analysis of power of attorney documents and guardianship matters.
  • Review and approve/deny client distribution requests as escalated by the Trust Distribution Supervisor. This requires knowledge of special needs trust distribution rules and public benefit programs (e.g., Medicaid, Medicare, SSI, SSDI, food assistance, subsidized housing), and careful analysis of financial documentation such as invoices and receipts.
  • Review and approve trust closure matters as submitted by the Trust Closure Paralegal. This requires comprehensive file review and application of Medicaid Estate Recovery and probate concepts.
  • Review and approve/deny Master Trust amendments and revocations.
  • Provide regular feedback on staff work product to the Director of Operations.
  • Explain and troubleshoot software errors with department leads and/or Director of Operations.
  • Review legal and financial documents, including powers of attorney, pleadings, court orders, settlement agreements, and third-party trust agreements.
  • Explain policies, procedures, and legal concepts in a simplified way to staff, stakeholders, their legal representatives, and other parties.
  • Effectively communicate with our Trustee on workflows, taxes, and other concerns.
  • Provide legal opinion on trust matters.
  • Communicate with outside counsel on an as-needed basis, especially as it pertains to court-supervised trusts and Social Security Administration inquiries.
  • Manage and prioritize high volume and urgent concerns.
  • Assist in new and ongoing staff training.
  • Give presentations and write articles for professional and lay audiences.
  • Attend Board and Committee Meetings if requested.
  • Maintain customer accounts and records with confidentiality.
  • Any other responsibilities identified by the Executive Director.

Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree and J.D. from accredited U.S. schools.
  • Bar member in good standing with no disciplinary actions in any state.
  • At least 2 years of special needs trust experience preferred.
  • Experience with trust establishment, estate planning, elder law, probate, guardianship, tax planning, minor and adult settlements, child support, qualified income trust, and ABLE account matters preferred.
  • Familiarity with POMS preferred.
  • Excellent attention to detail, critical thinking, and organizational skills.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Capable of working under limited supervision.
  • Ability to monitor law changes and update best practices, policies, and/or forms accordingly.
  • Experience with entering data in a database with little to no errors.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Office 365 including Word, Outlook, Excel, and Teams.
  • Familiarity with Adobe Pro 2020.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Access and/or Microsoft Dynamics preferred.

Job Types: Full-time, Temporary

Pay: $90,000.00 per year
