Job Description: The Healthcare Access Specialist serves as an active member of the Community Health Alliance (CHA) team, supporting the patient and other team members with patient engagement. The Healthcare Access Specialist will provide educational presentations to community partners, stakeholders, and staff to guide individuals and families through enrollment opportunities. The Healthcare Access Specialist will provide individual insurance education and resources. Additionally, this position provides support for the development and disbursement of marketing materials. This position is responsible for development and maintenance of strong collaborative relationships with community stakeholders; participating in additional organizational activities and events as assigned by the Population Health Supervisor. This position may perform additional projects as assigned by the population health team that may include, but are not limited to: population health management (data tracking and reporting on various measures). Healthcare Access Specialists may be assigned to a specific health center(s), and/or rotate to best serve the patients’ and organization’s needs.

Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of and ability to understand different federal, state and local benefit programs and requirements.
- Knowledge of electronic medical record (EMR) system.
- Ability to communicate with patients in a clinical setting in Spanish.
- Knowledge of access to local community resources.
- Knowledge of different health programs such as Medicaid, Medicare, PPO, HMO, and Managed Care Organizations (MCO’s).
- Skill in operating a personal computer utilizing word processing, databases, spreadsheets, and e-mail.
- Skill in operating various office equipment: calculator, copy machine, fax machine, and telephone.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of information, patient financial and medical information per HIPAA guidelines.
- Ability to read, write legibly, and calculate mathematical figures.
- Ability to solve practical problems dealing with a variety of variables.
- Ability to exercise good judgment in appraising situations and making decisions.
- Ability to work and interact effectively and positively with other staff members to build and to enhance teamwork in the clinics and overall CHA organization.
- Ability to communicate in a courteous and professional manner.
- Ability to understand and respond appropriately, effectively and sensitively to any population or group (cultural competency). Ability to hear and speak to converse over telephone and interview patients.
- Ability to maintain a driver’s license and travel between clinic sites and community events as needed.

Education and Experience: High School Diploma or GED equivalent required. English and Spanish fluency, verbal and written is required. Experience in health insurance, medical eligibility and/or medical setting preferred. Knowledge of community resources and processes preferred. Experience in customer service and EMR preferred.
Salary : $500
