REPORTS TO: Student Services

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

The District 155 Speech Language Pathologist is responsible for the assessment, planning, goal development, and monitoring, and provision of appropriate intervention services designed to assist the student in acquiring those functional skills needed to participate and progress in the educational environment and improve the student’s level of independent functioning.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Previous related experiences and/or training
  • Valid teaching Credentials/License in Field
  • Master’s Degree in job-related area
  • Experience working with low-incidence populations and assistive technology
  • Collaborate effectively with students, parents, and other professionals
  • Utilize specialized equipment in communication disorders
  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to travel within the district buildings as necessary

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES ESSENTIAL TO THE POSITION:

  • Comply with all state rules and regulations, Board of Education policy, and administrative procedures
  • Comply with all of the requirements regarding reports, record keeping, etc. in a timely manner
  • Complete all of the District’s requirements regarding procedures for referred students
  • Carry out screening and assessment/evaluation procedures for referred students
  • Maintain a system of documentation that is professional, consistent, efficient, and accountable and that conforms to State and District Policy
  • Maintain and be accountable for equipment and inventory, including safety issues and proper working order
  • Communicates results of evaluations and reports of  speech-language services to the educational staff, parents, students, and, when appropriate, other agencies concerned with the students
  • Attend MDC, IEP, department, and other appropriate meetings
  • Facilitate in-service education and professional development for colleagues
  • Demonstrates knowledge of instructional materials and strategies appropriate to students with communication disorders e.g. vocabulary strategies, language skills and strategies, reading and writing strategies, listening skills, coping strategies, assistive technology, and self-advocacy skills.
  • Provide consultation to the staff regarding student needs, professional needs, and classroom/building needs to achieve targeted goals and objectives
  • Utilizes local, state, and federal resources/services to benefit students.
  • Provide reassessment of students, focusing on areas of needs, at intervals determined to be educationally relevant
  • Proficiently implement technology to enhance and provide access to students’ instructional programs, communicate, collect and analyze data, and compile reports.
  • Provides services at multiple work sites for the purpose of providing direct therapy interventions and assistance as required
  • Establishes and maintains a positive and safe therapeutic or educational environment for students
  • Communicate the needs of speech-language services to the appropriate administrator(s)
  • Reviews self-performance and seeks appropriate guidance and consultation
  • Remain abreast of professional developments in the field
  • Perform other duties as assigned by building and/or district administration

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, talk, see, hear, and type on a computer or device.  The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, use stairs, or crouch.  In addition, the employee must occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds.
