Job Summary :
Responsible and accountable for providing educational program and ongoing nursing competencies in collaborations with Directors. Is responsible for providing clinical and management leadership in patient care. Actively and consistently contributes to department operations and communications, behaves in a manner consistent with the mission, vision, and values of Pipeline Health, upholding standards of AIDET (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, Thank you) patient communication.
Essential Functions :
- Evaluates, analyzes, and coordinates nursing education related activities. Able to reach or obtain resources as needed.
- Acts as a resource person for matters relating to education and coordination.
- Maintains close communication with all Directors and Managers in each department and coordinates educational plan and activities with them.
- Participates on the hospital's committee structure.
- Ensures that all employees are provided initial nursing orientation.
- Provides ongoing education to staff to obtain and improve knowledge on current policy and procedures, current nursing practice, regulatory changes, and hospital changes.
- Participates in hospital's Performance Improvement
- Program and provides reports in accordance with established format and timeframes.
- Collects data for both improvement priorities and continuing measurement.
- Able to write educational plans and implement plan to completion.
- Teaches participation multidisciplinary patient and family education. Utilizes appropriate resources and documents level of comprehension. Participates by incorporating and advocating for additional intervention when needed.
- Data collection for the purpose of participating in the performance improvement plan.
- Continually re-evaluates education plan, updates / revises.
- Provides care and staff training of age-appropriate care for patients ranging from infant to geriatric, including but not limited to :
o Ability to assess, interpret and provide age specific data.
o Knowledge of normal growth and development.
o Knowledge of normal disease processes.
o Ability to provide age specific treatment.Possess communication skills necessary to interpret age specific response to treatment, socialization factors, separation anxiety, loss of independence / control issues and recognition of sensorium changes.
o Ability to involve family / significant other / legal guardian in decision making processes related to plan of care.
o Ability to provide a safe environment specific to age and development.
o Demonstrates awareness of barriers to learning, safety measures and fall precautions.
Uses clear, concise, professional communication with coworkers, patients, all customers internal and external.Uses AIDET in interactions with patients and family members. Utilizes white boards for patient communication.Collaborates across disciplines to assist in coordination of patient care, including but not limited to patient transfer, discharge, referrals, and spiritual / psychosocial support needs.Acts with a sense of urgency when performing tasks.Basic unit / department maintenance such as keeping files, drawers, cabinets free from unnecessary clutter.Reports on any equipment and or environmental issues for repair.Abides by HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) regulations.Utilizes SBAR (Situation, Background, Assessment, Recommendation) when communicating with oncoming shift, physician communication and giving report to ancillary or other nursing services.Speaks up to stop the line and escalates potential safety events if necessary.Completes and attends monthly training assigned.May float to other areas of the hospital as needed.Other duties as assigned.Behavioral Standards :

Minimum of two (2) years' experience as a nurse required.Prior education experience a plus.Critical thinking, service excellence and good interpersonal communication skills, ability to read / comprehend written instructions, strong organizational skills, ability to follow verbal instructions, and PC (computer) skills.A capacity to learn, synthesize, make critical judgments, work independently, place patients and families first, and collaborate with the team members who are recognized leaders within health care.Licensure / Certifications :
Current RN license issued and / or recognized by the state Board of Nursing for the State of employment.Basic Life Support (BLS) from American Heart Association (AHA), required.Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) from American Heart Association (AHA), required.Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) from American Heart Association (AHA), required.AB508 Workplace Violence Prevention-Part 1, due within 30 days from hire date.
