PURPOSE: An after school care director is responsible for the overall management and operation of an after-school program, overseeing the safety, well-being, and enrichment activities of children enrolled, including staff supervision, curriculum development, parent communication, and ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations, while maintaining a positive and engaging learning environment.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification: HS Diploma or equivalent, some college courses preferred

Child development knowledge:
Understanding of child development stages, appropriate activities for different age groups, and the ability to adapt programming accordingly. -
Leadership and supervisory skills:
Experience in managing teams, providing effective feedback, and fostering a positive work environment. -
Communication skills:
Excellent verbal and written communication to interact with parents, staff, and school officials. -
Organizational skills:
Ability to plan, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple responsibilities effectively. -
Problem-solving abilities:

First aid and CPR certification:
Required in most jurisdictions to respond to emergencies involving children.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Program planning and implementation:
Designing age-appropriate activities, creating a daily schedule, and coordinating diverse enrichment programs like homework assistance, arts & crafts, sports, and outdoor play. -
Staff management:
Hiring, training, and supervising after-school staff, delegating tasks, and evaluating their performance to ensure quality childcare. -
Student supervision:
Actively monitoring children during activities, addressing behavioral issues, and ensuring their safety throughout the program. -
Parent communication:
Maintaining open communication with parents through regular updates, conferences, and addressing concerns regarding their children's progress and well-being. -
Compliance and regulations:
Adhering to all state and local licensing requirements related to child care, including health and safety protocols, staff qualifications, and recordkeeping. -
Budget management:
Overseeing program finances, managing supplies and equipment, and ensuring efficient use of allocated funds. - Billing/Payment Collections:
- Managing monthly/yearly billing and collections of payments for tuition either on a monthly or annual basis.

Community engagement:
Building relationships with school administration, collaborating with other community organizations, and promoting the after-school program to potential participants.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for the overall oversight of the program including staff management and student supervision.
