Job Purpose:

The Area Director is the team leader responsible for all operations connected to the designated area agencies. The Area Director oversees the Program Managers responsible for specific operations and residential programs. The Area Director ensures quality service is provided at the highest level for each individual. The Area Director also ensures that all documentation is being filed on time, is of a quality nature and, most importantly, is accurate. The Area Director is also responsible to ensure the highest level of compliance for residential services. The Area Director must be flexible to lead in any client crisis management.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in human services field. 2 years of experience as a program manager or equivalent.
  • Valid driver’s license, ability to drive clients and respond to programs as necessary, working automobile, and proof of insurance.
  • Successful completion of selected training within first ninety (90) days of employment and maintenance of all required training through annual/biennial re-certification.
  • Strong moral character, with demonstrated ability to be firm in principle and flexible in application; evidenced capacity to provide compassionate care to marginalized populations.
  • Commitment to independent living, community inclusion, and full participation for all citizens with cognitive and physical disabilities and/or mental illness.
  • Exemplifies Agency interests through professional presentation and bearing, manifests determination to effectively use Agency standards to supervise others; can distinguish when and where to consult with supervisor and when and where to make decisions/commit to actions using knowledge of policy and procedure as a guide;
  • Recognize personal organization habits reflecting personal accountability and initiative, and in turn fosters team productivity, efficiency, accountability, and excellence; demonstrable time management skills; balances paperwork demands with meaningful on-site program presence.
  • Excellent writing/word processing/editing skills, comfortable learning new technologies and applying these to current challenges, competent conducting research through internet search engines; proficient in accessing/managing web-based applications and data-entry systems (CIS portal, etc.).

Job Duties:

  • Display a strong regard for the importance of professional presentation and boundaries, separating personal concerns from professional demands, using supervision to resolve any conflicts between the two.
  • Exhibit a level of professionalism consistent with Agency Mission, Vision, and Values;
  • Achieve a sound/nuanced understanding of, and consistent reliance on, Agency policies, practices, and procedures, as well as with State/Federal regulations and statutes that impact on assigned area of responsibility.
  • Facilitate mandated reporting compliance efforts; collect reportable event documentation from DSP, reporter or PM, review for thoroughness.
  • Works to ensure that front Program Managers are completing accurate, timely and thorough documentation. Provides feedback and training to staff routinely on quality of documentation, and monitors record keeping compliance as a part of the agency’s overall Quality Assurance efforts.
  • Understand specific area agency needs and ensure the entire team meets them.
  • Initiate ongoing communication with all team members (DSP, Agency Administration, State Service Coordinator, Guardian, Area Agency leadership) to preserve healthy interchange of information,
  • Foster transparency, encourage growth of mutual trust/respect, and develop healthy interdependence.
  • Support Program Managers in establishing and maintaining a regular schedule for DSP supervisions, building on mutually recognized strengths while working to overcome weaknesses, identifying opportunities for professional development, evaluating progress on an (at least) annual basis, and enlisting involvement from Area Director and Human Resources should corrective action becomes necessary.
  • Review/approve paid time-off requests covered/submitted by Program Manager and submit to HR; forward unpaid leave requests to HR for further review; and collect workman’s comp injury data, coordinate initiation of care with HR and draft/submit first report to insurance company (with copy to HR).
  • Facilitate individual service agreement (ISA) and planning meetings enlisting active participation from Program manager in preparation of planning schedules, documents, and agenda; assess intensity of consumer support needs using validated instruments, provide post-planning instruction to full team on effective implementation of ISA goals; ensure Agency accountability to ISA team through collection/distribution of monthly progress reports.
  • In collaboration with Behaviorist overseeing severely intrusive behavior plan and actively implementing behavior plan(s), initiate ongoing proficiency training/assessment of all program DSP employees following and revisions to behavior plan and prior to permitting any employee unmonitored contact with consumer(s).
  • In partnership with the Human Resources department, schedule and participate in specialized program-based DSP training targeted to address emerging concerns, unresolved performance issues, or skill/team building.
  • In connection with Business department, facilitate timely collection of Program Manager and DSP time sheets via the CIS portal, accurate review/compilation of payroll data within prescribed time frame, and prompt resolution of any issues, providing effective one-to-one training of Program Manager on correct portal time sheet completion/submission; facilitate accurate/timely processing of monthly expense reports.

Working Conditions and Assignments:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is an administrative role in nature, but does require the ability for standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and stooping throughout the day. The employee must frequently lift and/or move items over 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus. Pay: $52,000.00 - $60,000.00 per year
