What are the responsibilities and job description for the Food Truck Chef/Instructor position at Community Kitchen Pittsburgh?
Community Kitchen Pittsburgh is a 501c3 nonprofit food service company, using food to change lives and strengthen communities. Our primary mission is to provide career-driven, experiential training and paid work experience for adults with barriers to employment to prepare them for meaningful, career pathway jobs in the food service industry. We also provide meals/meal access to vulnerable and struggling individuals and families, and we support food advocacy and food education efforts.
We are seeking a chef who wants to help us grow this business line. This truck will be a training platform for us and an opportunity to grow our reach and reputation. The revenue from this line will support transitional employment and paid training opportunities for people overcoming barriers to employment and seeking careers in food service.
We want a creative business-minded culinarian who is inspired by food and wants to inspire others.
This enterprise will integrate with our other retail and event activities, and we welcome a chef with ideas on how to promote and grow a business that can in turn support, train and motivate trainees so we can help them achieve stability and eventually move into other quality jobs in the industry.
This job WILL involve evenings and weekends –as the more successful the truck the more people we can employ and support into their own career pathway positions. It will also involve positive and non-judgmental supervision and management -- someone who can motivate and inspire with their love of food and the creativity of cooking, but who also understands how to run an effective food business so that we can generate profits to support our mission.

- When the Food Truck does not have production / event needs, this position will work on other production to include catering prep, production, delivery and set up; or contract meal production; other events.
- This position involves student training and engagement on topics to include but not limited to how to safely and effectively cook and serve on a food truck, how to engage with customers, how to maintain food safety logs, how to properly label, store food, and transport food, proper cleaning processes, open and closing procedures.
