Description : We are seeking candidates for our Preschool Assistant Teacher positions!
SUMMARY : Assist the classroom Teacher in planning and carrying out the Head Start curriculum while maintaining a safe and healthy environment for the children; engage the parents and volunteers in classroom activities by performing the duties listed below.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES :
Competencies :
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE : High school diploma or general education degree (GED) plus one year of experience in a child development center (pre-school or elementary). Obtain CDA (Child Development Associate Certificate) within 2 years of hire as required by federal mandate. (Head Start funding is available.)
QUALIFICATIONS : To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily, as well as be committed to the mission and goals of the agency. LANGUAGE SKILLS : Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. Whenever possible, speak the client’s language to the best of your ability.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS : Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
REASONING ABILITY : Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
COMPUTER : Experience with Microsoft Office Suite in a Windows environment helpful and preferred.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS : Department of Human Services FBI Clearance, PA State Criminal History, Childline Child Abuse Certification, and submission to the National Sex Offender Registry (NSOR) required prior to hire. Employees hired for positions, regulated by Department of Human Services (DHS), are required to submit documentation of a current (less than 1 year) physical assessment including a Tuberculosis skin test, prior to hire and on a biennial basis (physical only) throughout employment. The Child Abuse “Mandated Reporter” training due within 90-days of hire.
