JOB SUMMARY
Supports and assists the classroom Teacher in designing and implementing a comprehensive program to meet the educational, emotional, social, health, nutritional, and psychological needs of children within the Head Start Program in accordance with the Head Start Performance Standards.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Maintains a safe, healthy learning environment, including full supervision of children at all times, in accordance with Head Start Program Performance Standards and child care licensing requirements;
2. Supports the Teacher in the development and implementation of daily, weekly, and monthly lesson plans that follow the Creative Curriculum guidelines;
3. Helps guide and facilitate preschool activities in the classroom that are developmentally, linguistically, culturally and age-appropriate to include circle time, meal time, outdoor time, small group, large group, rest period, and hygiene/toileting activities;
4. Supports the transition to kindergarten for the children by stimulating growth in language, social, and motor skills;
5. Effectively records and documents individualized learning plans, attendance records, classroom lesson plans, monthly classroom activities, etc.;
6. Ensures that classroom equipment, furniture, and supplies are properly maintained and stored;
7. Assists the Teacher in the full implementation of IEP’s (Individualized Education Plans) and promotes a quality inclusive environment for children with disabilities and special needs;
8. Assists the Teacher in updating and maintaining organized and accurate records of children’s files, including individualized learning plans, developmental assessments, attendance records, classroom lesson plans, and monthly classroom activities;
9. Works collaboratively with the Teacher and Child and Family Specialist to develop, implement, and maintain parent-partnership agreements, conduct monthly parent meetings, and schedule parent conferences;
10. Attends staff trainings and meetings as requested and participates in continuing education programs as necessary to achieve appropriate credentials;
11. Performs other tasks and duties as required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Required: Associates of Arts Degree from an accredited college or University with a major in Early Childhood Education or a degree that includes six Early Childhood Education classes and one year related experience in a pre-school teaching environment.
Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or University with a major in Early Childhood Education or a degree that includes six Early Childhood Education classes and one-year related experience in a pre-school teaching environment.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of childhood development services;
- Effective interpersonal and oral communication skills;
- Capacity and empathy to work with a diverse population, low-income families and children, including those with disabilities;
- Ability to travel to Program and home sites;
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office and data entry applications.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
County Sheriff’s Card, TB Test Results, Health Verification, CPR & First Aid, Infectious Disease & Bloodborne Pathogens, Child Abuse & Neglect, and Nevada Registry.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Must have the ability to perform duties which require:
· Vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
· Stand, walk, sit, carry, push, and pull.
· Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl.
· Ability to climb and balance.
· Ability to use hands and fingers to handle or feel.
· Must be able to occasionally lift, move manipulate and or hold objects up to 25 pounds. Objects that exceed the 25-pound weight limit require additional assistance when moving, lifting, or manipulating.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
The employee will be required to perform work indoorsand outdoors. Work location will be determined yearly. Employee can be expected to be moved from one classroom to another during employment.
