Job Description

DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

The In-Home Counselor provides direct services to include: treatment plan development and implementation with children and families and counseling and parent skill training, through the use of proper therapeutic interventions. The In-Home Counselor works independently in clients’ home and other community settings, utilizing creative clinical interventions based on best practice models and learned counseling techniques to work effectively with children and families.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

· Develop treatment plan with client and family participation.

· Provide individual and family therapeutic sessions and interventions as outlined in the Treatment Plan.

· Work to join appropriately with children and families in establishing effective professional relationship with an awareness of maintaining appropriate boundaries.

· Provide on-call crisis intervention services to clients as necessary.

· Document all services provided according to FPS/ VA licensure requirements and standards in the timeframe established by the Region.

· Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other collateral community agency professionals by working cooperatively with these community professionals.

· Participates in collaborative treatment planning and coordination of meetings for all clients, including those involving schools, other providers, court appearances, parents, etc.

· Provides on-call crisis intervention services with back up from Regional, Clinical and State Directors.

· Consistently utilize best practice models in clinical work by:

· Demonstrating a conceptual and applied understanding of human growth, development, and decision-making in the counseling process.

· Demonstrating awareness of and respect for the individual and cultural differences.

· Applying the major clinical theories and their associated procedures and techniques.

· Facilitating and managing the counseling process according to the counselor’s guiding theory.

· Demonstrating therapeutic communication skills consistent with counselor’s theoretical framework.

· Attend and actively participate in supervision meetings. Be prepared to discuss current caseload.

· Attend and actively participate in all treatment team and other staff meetings.

· Attend and actively participate in all required trainings including ELearning.

· Complete and submit by due date each pay period: Time Sheet, mileage form and all other required client documentation.

· Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

The In Home Counselor must be able to be credentialed as a Qualified Mental Health Professional which requires: Possession of a Master’s degree or a Bachelor’s Degree from an approved college or university in a Human Services discipline (i.e. counseling; mental health; social work; marriage and family counseling; psychology; educational psychology; vocational counseling; sociology; psychiatric rehabilitation; child, family and community services; early childhood development; guidance and counseling; home economics – child and family services; human development; human service administration; school (education) psychology; human relations; counseling psychology; community counseling; cognitive science; clinical psychology; special education; child development; healthcare counseling; human services; human services counseling; human development; health psychology; social science; divinity/pastoral care/pastoral counseling; any other degree with a demonstrated concentration of study in psychology, social work, or mental health discipline) AND a minimum of one year of verified direct work experience, acquired working with children/adolescents and families in a therapeutic treatment environment.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

· Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are required to develop and maintain a positive therapeutic relationship with children and adolescent with emotional and behavioral problems. Also, requires the ability to work cooperatively with organizations, agencies, and other professionals.

· Necessary skills are required to develop an individualized treatment plan and carry out appropriate documentation within 24 hours of service delivery.

· The ability to stabilize crisis.

· First Aid, CPR, TOVA, and ongoing training.

· *An acceptable Tuberculosis Test/Screening is required within thirty (30) days of employment

· Satisfactory DMV driving record
