Description
Brain Injury Services - Gateway Community Support is a community based 1:1 program that supports veterans and other individuals with a traumatic brain injury. The program assists individuals in finding natural support, resources, and activities in their community to empower them in social and community settings. Brain Injury Services creates communities where brain injury survivors are seen and acknowledged for their individual talents, strengths, and abilities as we increase awareness of brain injury related disabilities through advocacy, education, and collaboration.
Community Workforce Solutions, Inc. is hiring a Community Engagement Specialist for our Gateway Community Support program. This role will work with veterans to help reengage them in their local community by aiding and supporting individuals’ goals and providing cognitively-focused activities within their local community.
Responsibilities
- Provides functional supports on an individualized basis.
- Creates goals to assist with acquiring, retaining and improving skills necessary to reside as independently as possible.
- Facilitates sessions that improve upon goals while accessing a variety of community-based resources.
- Helps individuals reintegrate and reconnect with their communities in order to encourage a healthy level of independence.
- Provides positive support and advocate for the client.
- Provides assistance and guidance with identifying choices and making informed decisions that involve client’s activities and life.
- Completes daily and other necessary documentation in compliance with CARF and agency policies.
Required Education / Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in human service field and ability to obtain the CBIS certification within first year (paid by CWS). Equivalent experience will be considered in lieu of education.
- Preference will be given to those applicants with experience with veterans or military culture and/or knowledge of brain injuries.
Minimum Qualifications
- This position provides a company vehicle to travel between the counties of need including Wake, Johnston, Durham Guilford, Cumberland, and Nash. Proof of insurance is required.
Physical Requirements
- Position is considered medium, requiring lifting of up to 50 pounds, 75% standing/walking and the ability to bend, stoop, push/pull, and gross dexterity skills.
- Local travel and driving is required.
- Requires visual observation and the ability to communicate with a variety of individuals.
Compensation
- $19.00 - $21.00 per hour
