Position Title: Network Systems Technician (Video Teleconferencing Support)
Location: Los Alamos, NM (with occasional travel to Santa Fe and Pacheco sites)
Schedule: 9/80A (initially), with some flexibility for off-site events
Summary:
Join a dynamic technical team supporting critical networked computer and video teleconferencing systems across Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL). As a Network Systems Technician, you will play an essential role in maintaining the performance, configuration, and security of IT and AV systems used for classified and unclassified communications. This position is hands-on, active, and offers meaningful opportunities to contribute to mission-driven work in a collaborative and forward-thinking environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide day-to-day technical support for networked computer systems and audiovisual (AV) equipment across multiple LANL locations.
Set up, test, and troubleshoot AV systems—including microphones, soundboards, projectors, and Cisco video conferencing tools—for meetings and large events.
Support secure (classified) and non-secure video teleconferencing systems; a DOE Q clearance is required.
Maintain system configurations to meet institutional security standards and proactively address technical issues before events and meetings.
Coordinate and monitor room schedules to anticipate technical needs and ensure system readiness.
Participate in occasional off-site events, with potential for limited overtime (typically 1–2 times per year).
Work closely with and learn from senior technicians during an initial mentorship period (~3 months), eventually taking on more independent responsibilities while remaining part of a supportive team.
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent, plus 1–2 years of related technical experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
Familiarity with computer systems, networks, and AV technologies.
Strong troubleshooting skills and a proactive, solutions-oriented mindset.
Willingness to work in a hands-on, active environment (not a desk-based role).
Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance.
Strong communication and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with Cisco video conferencing systems and AV event setup.
Understanding of secure computing environments.
Ability to manage multiple tasks and adjust to shifting priorities.
Previous experience in a federal or research environment is a plus.
