Job Summary
FISD is seeking a hands-on, service-driven Director of Dining Services to lead the food service program at Out-of-Door Academy in Lakewood Ranch, FL-an independent school known for its academic excellence and strong sense of community.
This is a working director role, not an office-based position. You'll be actively involved in the day-to-day food service operations, leading a small, dedicated team and ensuring that dining services are delivered with excellence, efficiency, and a personal touch.
Operation Overview:
- Monday-Friday operation serving approximately 850 students and 225 faculty across 2 campuses
- Breakfast, lunch, and retail snack service available from 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM
- Year-round position with responsibilities during the academic year and off-season periods
- Direct management of 2 managers and a small team of hourly staff
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the entire food service operation, including cafeteria, breakfast, lunch, and snack services
- Lead and manage day-to-day service across both campuses in a highly visible, hands-on capacity
- Ensure exceptional food quality, presentation, and customer satisfaction
- Hire, train, supervise, and develop both managers and hourly associates
- Maintain high standards for sanitation and safety (HACCP and OSHA compliance)
- Manage department budget, control food and labor costs, and complete necessary financial reporting
- Drive innovation in menu offerings, sustainability, and service model
- Build and maintain strong relationships with school administrators and the broader campus community
What We’re Looking For:
- Bachelor’s or associate’s degree in food service management or related field preferred
- 5-7 years of operational leadership in contract food service, hospitality, or education dining
- Proven experience with inventory control, purchasing, budgeting, and P&L oversight
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
- Experience managing a small team while staying deeply involved in day-to-day execution
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and food service software systems
- ServSafe® certification (or willingness to obtain)
