This role also encompasses maintaining laboratory equipment and ensuring compliance with all regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Collect, test, and document samples, including blood and urine, with precision and care.
- Perform phlebotomy duties, including venipuncture and other approved techniques, in accordance with CLIA and OSHA regulations.
- Gather lab test orders from staff and transport blood samples to the laboratory efficiently.
- Verify patient information and accurately enter data into the NextGen system while providing clear instructions to patients.
- Adhere to safety protocols for specimen storage, transportation, and proper disposal of venipuncture equipment.
- Collaborate effectively as a member of the healthcare team, responding to inquiries and ensuring patient satisfaction.
- Maintain cleanliness of the laboratory and equipment, ensuring adherence to state and federal guidelines.
- Monitor laboratory supplies and place orders as necessary to maintain operations.
- Comply with standard safety precautions, including the use of protective barriers and proper waste handling.
- Perform quality control procedures and ensure laboratory equipment is functioning correctly.
- Maintain up-to-date logbooks and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).
- Proficiency in collecting and documenting blood and urine samples.
- Expertise in various phlebotomy techniques, including venipuncture and capillary draws.
- Strong understanding of medical terminology, procedures, and laboratory equipment.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate within a healthcare setting.
- Knowledgeable about safety protocols regarding specimen handling and equipment disposal.
- High School Diploma or GED is required.
- A minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience in a laboratory or healthcare environment is essential.
- Certification as a Medical Assistant or Phlebotomy Certificate is required; alternatively, at least three years of demonstrated phlebotomy experience may be accepted in lieu of certification.
- ASCP Certification is preferred.
