Reports to: Independent Living Program Coordinator
Responsibilities:
Support the Information and Referral Specialist in promoting independent living services for individuals with disabilities by offering resources and referrals to Compass IL and external agencies within our service area. Assist with additional office support within the independent living department.
Essential Function:
- Provide individual and systems advocacy to support independent living for individuals with disabilities.
- Offer independent living services to callers, including information, referrals, and coordination of services.
- Maintain a comprehensive understanding of community and service area resources, and assist in the development of a resource guide in the database.
- Support the information and referral specialist by responding to inquiries and providing referrals as necessary.
- Complete consumer surveys following file closures to ensure the quality of services provided.
- Maintain accurate case records and fulfill reporting requirements, including timely documentation of activities and consumer contacts.
- IL staff are responsible for accurately recording 100% (8 hours) of daily time in the database system.
- Advocate for the Independent Living philosophy and promote disability awareness to consumers, service agencies, and the general public through presentations, training sessions, and other outreach efforts.
- Attend trainings and conferences to enhance and sustain knowledge of disability-related issues and the provision of Independent Living and associated services.
- Manage the CILWW Sale and Donation List and provide relevant data for reporting purposes.
- Oversee requests for assistive devices from AT4ALL.
- Assist in managing the assistive technology room.
- Compose and submit a monthly article on assistive technology to local ADRCs.
- Provide services to walk-in consumers.
- Undertake additional responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.
- Respond to in-person information and referral requests.
Qualifications:
- Rehabilitation-related Bachelors' degree or 2 plus years in disability related work experience. Additional education may be substituted for one year of experience.
- Knowledge of independent living philosophy and goals.
- Experience with case management and maintaining a caseload of up to 5 consumers
- Familiarity with community resources.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to travel independently (preferred)
Skills and Demands
- Language Skills: Proficient in reading and interpreting documents, writing reports, and communicating effectively both verbally and in writing.
- General Knowledge of Computer Applications: Familiarity with MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, Adobe, Zoom, and MS Teams.
- Mathematical Skills: Competent in basic arithmetic operations such as addition, subtraction, and multiplication.
- Reasoning Skills: Capable of applying common sense to fulfill agency objectives and follow instructions provided in both written and verbal formats.
- Physical Demands: Ability to successfully perform the essential functions of the position.
