The Captain is the manager of the entire vessel tow. The attitude they convey reflects directly on the company and should always be at the highest standard. Together with their crew, they are the primary link between the company and the customer. A good crew with a caring Captain can overcome most obstacles at the terminals and leave a favorable impression. Captains are encouraged to use their initiative, always keeping in mind the safety of the vessel and crew, and the general policies and procedures of the company.

Responsible for providing outstanding and safe on-water experiences by creating a balanced presentation of nature, culture, and history education and sport-specific technique.
· Provide superior experiences to every Outside Brands guest, connecting our guests to the history, culture, and nature of the local area.
· Demonstrate proficiency with boat handling skills and be willing to work with Outside staff in bringing skills up to standard.
· Operate all equipment in a safe and efficient manner, conforming to and/or exceeding regulations. This includes maintaining the company-issued Guide Box on each vessel.
· Maintain and clean all equipment to the highest standard per policy. This includes accurately maintaining refueling records in the appropriate fuel log.
· Complete all trip paperwork per company policy.
· Be prepared for a trip at any time when scheduled, keeping clean uniform and safety equipment on hand.
· Arrive at least 30 minutes early to prepare for trips.
· Communicate any operational incidents to the Director of Program Operations.
SKILL AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE
- Current and valid USCG License and valid TWIC card required.
- Must be able to work in all types of weather conditions.
- Previous dock/marina experience preferred.
- Ability to work remotely with little direct supervision;
- Ability to lift, carry, and move heavy objects and/or equipment;
- Ability to take and adhere to instructions;
- Ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with others;
- Small boat handling skills, passenger vessel experience a plus.
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to stand and walk on nearly a constant basis
- Able to bend, rotate and reach frequently
- Carry, push/pull and/or lift materials weighing upwards of 75 lbs.
- Ascending/descending stairs or ladders safely
- Manipulate/handle/grip materials required to perform job
- Maneuver through/in/around small and/or confined areas within the vessel
- Must be able to maintain both static and dynamic standing balance to complete various duties associated with job
- Must be capable of performing emergency duties as listed in the vessel’s station bill
- Vision must be correctable to 20/40 with full color vision and no night blindness.
Hitch may be a 28/14 day rotation or a 28/28, 14/14, 42/21, 30/30, etc
Must be able to pass a drug test and physical upon hiring.
Candidates are responsible for their own transportation to and from the interview and crew changes (unless otherwise stated)
