Job Summary:
The Journey General Engineer will investigate, analyze, and deliver technical positions, and recommendation on engineering issues with minimal oversight and direction. They can independently address the majority of their tasking without direct senior level guidance.
Essential Job Functions:
- Develop creative and innovative solutions to solving complex design and manufacturing challenges in a dynamic team environment with minimal guidance.
- Ability to independently identify and resolve problems in a timely manner; gather and analyze information skillfully; develop alternative solutions; work well in group problem-solving situations.
- Support the Program Manager’s efforts to comply with product and aircraft requirements, technical and financial reporting, and quality control measures without direct senior level direction.
- Leading projects in manufacturing process and material development during the early stages (TRL 0-5) with the goal to transfer projects to a cross-functional teams such as Operations, Manufacturing, Quality, and Regulatory to delivery on project commitments (quality, time and cost). Work products are provided to more senior personnel as appropriate and will require only minor periodic correction or change.
Other Job Functions:
- During some projects, will share responsibility for the management and development of other engineers, scientists or technicians.
- Provides input for the development of long-term strategy for advanced materials and manufacturing processes.
- Conduct detailed product/process design products for submittal to higher level review.
- Implement design for manufacturability in new processes to minimize lifecycle cost
- Collaborates to develop advanced engineering and related manufacturing processes including raw materials, process design and optimization Develop innovative qualification methodologies to apply appropriate statistical and validation techniques based on overall risk.
- Participate in Process Failure Mode Effects Analysis (PFMEA) studies and risk assessment effort for material processing
- Participate in collaborations with R&D and academic institutions
- Provide timely and accurate reporting on project activities to senior level personnel.
Requirements
Qualifications/Education/Experience/Skills:
- Bachelor's Degree in Materials Engineering, Metallurgy, Aerospace, Mechanical or any other related Engineering field
- 8 years in product development, material process and testing or relevant experience is required.
- Program/Project Management experience is required.
- A demonstrated understanding of various types of manufacturing, mechanisms, and materials is required.
- Process qualification/validation/verification is required.
- Strong analytical skills are required.
- A strong understanding of Military Specifications and Standards is preferred.
- Knowledge of one or more of the listed core manufacturing processes: additive manufacturing, materials development, materials testing, and metal surface finishing.
- Experience in risk management is preferred.
Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee routinely is required to learn and apply new information and/or skills. Must be able to interpret data, information, and documents. Occasionally will need to move and/or lift up to 10lbs. Moderate environment temperature and noise level.
