What are the responsibilities and job description for the Plumbing (Industrial) Estimator position at Complete Mechanical?
JOB SUMMARY
The Plumbing Estimator will estimate costs for a wide range of industrial construction projects, specializing in plumbing scopes of work.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Coordinate project estimating for all scopes
- Clearly communicate scopes to subcontractors and suppliers to gather precise pricing.
- Lead estimates for plumbing, mechanical, and piping projects; strategize and collaborate with onsite field teams
- Develop detailed construction execution plans alongside associated indirect costs.
- Assist project management teams in managing change orders and ensuring proper document organization.
- Conduct site visits and attend job preconstruction meetings, which may occasionally require overnight stays.
- Participate in weekly estimating and project management meetings to streamline collaboration.
- Facilitate and engage in internal and executive review meetings to discuss project progress and strategies.
- Oversee project pre-planning and scheduling activities.
- Prepare budget estimates in alignment with project scope and objectives.
- Collaborate with the business development team to create competitive bids.
- Create comprehensive turnover packets to transition projects to the project management team seamlessly.
- Host project turnover meetings with the project management team to ensure all details are understood and executed.
REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE
- Minimum 3 years mechanical estimating experience in large industrial construction projects, with a focus on industrial plumbing.
- A bachelor’s degree in engineering or construction management is preferred, but candidates with substantial relevant experience are encouraged to apply.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting construction drawings and specifications.
- Familiarity with engineering design documents (e.g., isometrics) and specifications.
- Basic industry knowledge in sectors such as pharmaceuticals, pulp & paper, manufacturing, power, oil & gas, food/beverage/agriculture, commercial, and/or water and wastewater.
- Experience in EPC or design/build projects is a plus.
- Knowledge of scheduling practices is advantageous.
- Proficiency with estimating software tools such as Fast Pipe.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to effectively collaborate with others.
