Construction Safety Professional – Mechanical Trades (MEP Focus)
Job Summary
At Compliance Management International (CMI), we are dedicated to delivering exceptional safety oversight to our clients in the mechanical and specialty trade industries. We are currently seeking a Construction Safety Professional with strong soft skills, experience supporting mechanical trades (HVAC, piping, plumbing, fire protection, etc.), and a deep understanding of high-risk work environments, such as hot work, fall protection, confined space, and energy control (LOTO).
This position requires a self-starter who can work independently in the field while also supporting the administrative and compliance aspects of safety management. Key Responsibilities
- Serve as a mentor and educator, providing coaching to trade workers and supervisors on safe work practices
- Promote a positive, proactive safety culture through consistent field engagement and relationship-building
- Lead and participate in daily and weekly safety meetings, toolbox talks, and project planning sessions
- Conduct regular site safety audits and field observations with actionable feedback
- Oversee and support compliance with hot work, confined space, LOTO, and fall protection programs
- Coordinate and document safety orientations, JHAs, permits, and corrective actions
- Maintain and submit safety documentation and reports to support compliance and client requirements
- Minimum 5 years of direct safety oversight experience, preferably within mechanical or MEP construction environments
- Strong familiarity with mechanical systems and common hazards encountered during installation, demolition, or commissioning
- High-risk work experience required (e.g., fall protection, hot work, confined space)
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and documentation skills – must be confident engaging with skilled trades, supervisors, and management
- Ability to manage responsibilities both in the field and on the administrative side of safety
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and basic EHS management systems
- OSHA 30-Hour Construction Certification (must be current within the last 5 years)
- OSHA 510 or OSHA 500 preferred
- BCSP credentials (e.g., CHST, STS-C, CSP) are highly desirable
- First Aid/CPR/AED certification required
- Degree in Occupational Safety, Construction Management, or related field is preferred but not required
- This role requires active, hands-on involvement in diverse construction environments. Candidates must be able to:
- Stand and walk for extended periods
- Climb ladders and navigate job sites with rough or uneven terrain
- Work in extreme weather conditions including heat, cold, and inclement weather
- Lift and carry up to 30 lbs.
- Work in elevated areas, confined spaces, or areas with limited access, as needed
- Must reside within a reasonable commuting distance of assigned project(s) – no relocation, travel, or per diem provided
- Availability for overtime and flexible scheduling to align with project needs
