Position Details
Under general supervision, to perform responsible payroll processing and reporting work of moderate difficulty. Establish, maintain, and check payroll-related records; prepare periodic recurring reports of records maintained; monitor and participate in the development of payroll record-keeping procedures related to assigned areas.
Essential Functions - Typical Duties
Process regular certificated and classified employee payrolls, current year extra duty payrolls, and salary adjustments.
Initiate and compile documents to complete payroll-related transactions; input a variety of information such as hours worked, direct deposits, TSA, and voluntary deduction information into HRS.
Record, summarize, verify and report employee attendance data; prepare vacation and sick leave statements.
Resolve routine payroll disputes; communicate with school and departmental staff to expedite payroll processing and problem resolution; interface with personnel services staff to obtain and verify information, correct discrepancies and expedite payroll-related transactions; interface with LACOE on garnishments.
File Payroll time sheets, HRS reports, correspondence and other payroll-related documents; sort, review, and distribute payroll checks and documents.
Prepare payroll-related forms such as workers compensation salary forms.
Prepare employee salary data information and summaries requested by external agencies (Wage assignment)
Review EIR Reports.
Request I / A earnings and leave adjustments, TSA refund, W-2 adjustments, workers compensation, substitute employee charges to categorical programs. Research, gather, tabulate, assemble, analyze, summarize, and reconcile payroll-related information and records; screen documents for accuracy and completeness; check and correct discrepancies; return documents to originator.
Prepare and assist in the preparation of payroll-related statements and reports; reconcile computer generated and manual reports with control figures.
Prepare voluntary deduction payments.
Answer telephones, transfer calls and take messages; answer written inquiries and give authoritative information on records maintained.
Consult with technician and supervisor in the preparation of special reports and on unusual problems involving deviation from policy and precedent.
Operate various office machines, including a typewriter, calculator, photocopier, computer terminal, printer and other standard office machines; use specialized HRS, database and standard software to input, arrange, and extract information. Make arithmetical calculations.
Maintain logs, lists and files; file in alphabetical and numerical order.
Duplicate, collate, staple and distribute materials.
Prepare, post, total, and summarize manual and computer spreadsheets.
Keyboard lists, notices, forms, reports, routine correspondence and other payroll-related documents.
Develop or assist in the development of payroll record keeping and processing procedures.
Perform related work as required.
Minimum Qualifications - Education and Experience
High School Diploma required. Two years of responsible experience performing specialized payroll-processing work in an automated systems environment.
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS :
High school diploma required. Two years of responsible experience performing specialized payroll processing work in an automated systems environment. Twelve semester units of college-level course work in computer terminal operating methods, payroll record keeping or accounting is desirable.
