Full-Time Evening Shift (2:00pm to 10:30pm) with have rotating weekends and holidays.
Summary:
The Lead Tech is responsible for ensuring efficient clinical lab workflow overall lab operations. Perform and report laboratory tests within established guidelines, and under direction of the Technical Director and oversee training, special projects, QC review, proficiency testing, direct observation of competency, resolution of instrument or specimen problems, and ensure adherence to technical procedures and regulations.

Responsibilities:
- Perform routine technical benchwork as assigned.
- Perform and record routine maintenance and quality control on all equipment or reagents used for testing. Ensure documentation by 2nd/3rd shift on department checklists is complete. Provide guidance through advanced troubleshooting of instrumentation and quality control. Ensure appropriate follow up communication to lead techs, managers and directors as needed.
- Coordinate the overall operations of the 2nd and 3rd shifts, including scheduling, ensuring adequate staffing, and overseeing training/orientation to shift.
- Act as liaison between technical and support staff. Any issues with workflow or personnel should be brought to the Lead tech’s attention for support, resolution, and communication. Lead tech will direct the lab support staff as needed to ensure efficient workflow and problem resolution and communicate follow up to the lab managers.
- Participate in the selection of new employees as needed and assist with the training of new and current employees which includes introductory training, new or updated procedures or in instances when an individual has competency failures.
- Ensure compliance with all departmental, company, safety and regulatory policies and procedures.
- Provide technical guidance for department members for questions or problems that arise with testing. Follow any problems through to completion, communicate with appropriate managers, and next shift if appropriate.
- Assist with required competencies.
- Assist with proficiency testing through CAP or other agencies as well as competency assessment and provide additional training if the need is identified.
- Field calls from customers regarding issues and initiate investigation that provides sufficient details for appropriate follow up. Be responsible for communication to customer should the issue be resolved on same shift.
- Initiate coverage for call-ins and notify leadership as necessary.

- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Associates or Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Medical Laboratory Science (MLT/MLS/CLS) ASCP certification (or eligible) or comparable required.
- Demonstrated leadership skills and abilities.
- Good communication skills and ability to work with people.
- Sound reasoning ability and good independent judgment.
- Visual acuity and hand-finger dexterity to work at computer for extended periods.
- Perform accurate data entry and data analysis in a potentially noisy environment.
- Complete integrity and accuracy in test performance and results reporting
- Read/see small print on labels.
- Lift and carry, with both hands, weights up to 20 pounds for distances up to 50 yards.
- Lift a weight up to 50 pound from the floor to an approximate height of five feet.
- Manual dexterity to be able to manipulate various specimen types as well as the fine motor skills required to operate the various pipetting devices common to the clinical laboratory.
- Stand for extended periods of time.
- Repeatedly walk short distances.
- Will have exposure to biohazard substances and hazardous chemicals
- Be familiar with and adhere to safety, ergonomic and health policies of the Company.
- Comply with all PPE requirements when in the laboratory or other biohazard areas.
- Complete required safety training and health evaluations in a timely manner.
