Job Title: Enterprise Architect Specialist

POSITION SUMMARY:

Participates in the preparation of the strategic plan for Technology Services by defining the overall technology architecture for client’s business strategy and in the determination of feasibility, planning, design and construction of enterprise technology solutions. Also provides input and technical expertise to the enterprise planning process. Creates and maintains architectural models of enterprise business processes and rules, information and technology to identify relationships, manage system complexity and integrate and align business and information technology resources. Serves on project teams as technical lead or technical resource to champion conformance with fundamental principles and common methodologies governing the information systems development process.


REQUIRED COMPETENCIES:

Expert/Professional – Extensive technical breadth with technical depth in one or more disciplines. Professional level understanding of the required competencies with demonstrated skills and abilities coupled with extensive and substantial practical experience for successful application in difficult and complex work assignments with minimal supervision. Serves as a key resource for enterprise architecture issues that cross functional and organizational lines. Participates in defining future information technology architecture.


Knowledge of:

  • Business requirements and processes as related to enterprise architecture.
  • Architecture design principles, concepts and techniques, including views and viewpoints, building blocks, solutions modeling and benefits analysis.
  • Object oriented analysis and design.
  • The Open Group Architecture Framework (TOGAF) Architecture Development Method (ADM) and other design methods.
  • Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
  • Information Technology Library Infrastructure (ITIL) framework and best practices, including Control Objectives for IT (CoBIT).
  • JEA and Technology Services infrastructure, sufficient to consult across organizational lines with cross-functional teams in resolving problems and issues.
  • Business processes, metrics and inter-relationships.
  • Enterprise continuums.
  • Applicable industry standards for enterprise architecture frameworks.


Skill in:

  • Understanding and interpreting business requirements and performing complex analyses.
  • Creating, maintaining and managing enterprise architecture models.
  • Validating, refining and expanding models.
  • Experience working in a standards-based, methodologically driven lifecycle.
  • Producing designs of complex information technology systems.
  • Preparing business cases and scenarios.
  • Developing technical specifications.
  • Developing and delivering presentations and writing technical reports.
  • Proficient with using various documentation applications (including Microsoft Office Suite and Visio).
  • Facilitating business and technical meetings

  • Explain complex technical concepts in simple terms and promote enterprise architecture concepts to cross functional teams.

  • Manage multiple tasks and resources and respond quickly to ad hoc business customer and management requests.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external customers, service providers and vendors.
  • Focus on the customer while balancing customer needs with Technology Services processes, budget and guidelines.
  • Employ analytical, interpretive, evaluative and constructive thinking; and judgment in interpreting and adapting methods, techniques and procedures to specific projects and organizational requirements.
  • Communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with internal customers, peers and management with varied backgrounds and experience.
  • Create stakeholder buy-in.
  • Take initiative, accept accountability for achieving results and follow through with commitments


PERSONAL CONTACTS:

Influences others with diverse viewpoints to achieve a common understanding of enterprise architecture issues and develop solutions and alternatives by using persuasion and a broad range of technical knowledge.


OPEN REQUIREMENTS:

BA/BS degree in Computer Science or related field and eight (8) years of professional IT experience within one or more of the specialty areas listed below (See Enterprise Architect Specialist Specialty Areas).

-OR-

A MBA/MS degree and six (6) years combination of education, training and experience within one or more of the specialty areas listed below (See Enterprise Architect Specialist Specialty Areas).-OR-

A twelve (12) year combination of education, training and experience in within one or more of the specialty areas listed below (See Enterprise Architect Specialist Specialty Areas).

Experience must include a minimum of four (4) years in:

  • Enterprise Architect Specialist Specialty Areas - Enterprise Architecture, Fiber Architecture, Systems Architecture, Data Architecture, Software Architecture, Security Architecture or Network Architecture.

OR

  • Information Technology/Information Technology leadership and team building role, including project management, modeling and using structured analysis procedures and tools.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION:


The following certifications and/or licensing must be obtained within 12 months of the assignment or as agreed upon by the direct supervisor.

Fiber Architect

  • BISCI Certification – RCDD – Preferred not required
  • Certified Fiber Characterization Engineer (CFCE)

Systems Architect

  • IEEE Certified Software Development Professional (CSDP) or equivalent.
  • Cisco Certification

Data Architect

  • Oracle Certified Professional

Software Architect

  • Microsoft Certified Architect

Security Architect

  • ISC2 CISSP (Certified Information Systems Security Professional)

Network Architect

  • CCNP (Certified Cisco Network Professional)
