Position Summary :

The Material Handler is responsible for managing the movement of materials throughout the facility. This includes receiving, sorting, storing, and distributing materials efficiently and safely. The role involves using manual and automated material handling equipment, ensuring accurate records are kept, and adhering to safety and quality standards.

Core Responsibilities :

  • Product Movement :
  • Follow policies regarding safety and product quality.
  • Read production schedules, customer orders, or sipping orders to determine items to be moved, gathered, or distributed.
  • Transport materials from receiving or production areas to designated storage areas.
  • Sorting & Organizing :
  • Sort and place materials in bins, racks, or shelves according to predetermined sequences (e.g., size, type, product code).
  • Order Fulfillment :
  • Fill requisitions, work orders, or material requests and distribute items to production areas.
  • Assemble customer orders from stock and place them on pallets.
  • Mark materials with identifying information.
  • Loading / Unloading :
  • Open containers such as crates or bales.
  • Load and unload trailers of both palletized and non-palletized products.
  • Use material handling equipment to transport stored items.
  • Inventory Management :
  • Record the amounts of materials received or distributed.
  • Weigh or count items to ensure compliance with company standards.
  • Enter inventory and material data into warehouse management software.
  • Safety and Hygiene :
  • Practice safety and hygiene guidelines for safe housekeeping and personal protection.
  • Work in areas that may expose the employee to noise, heat, cold, dust, and dirt, with appropriate safety measures.
  • Customer Care :
  • Contribute to division results and performance by ensuring internal and external customer needs are met efficiently.

Position Requirements :

Formal Education :

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Knowledge & Experience :

  • Ability to communicate effectively with team members and management.
  • Must be able to read and interpret information from warehouse computer software.
  • Preferred : 1-3 years of relevant work experience in material handling or warehouse operations.
  • Physical Requirements :

  • Ability to sit, stand, hear, and see on a constant basis.
  • Ability to walk, write, and type frequently.
  • Able to lift and carry up to 30 pounds frequently and 40 pounds occasionally.
  • Capable of bending, carrying, reaching, pushing, and pulling frequently.
  • Ability to climb and descend stairs as needed.
  • May be exposed to temperature extremes (heat up to 120°ree;F, cold down to 0°ree;F).
  • Required to operate a computer and communicate via telephone.
  • May work in noisy environments requiring hearing protection
  • Education : High School
