Job Summary:
The Material Handler/Material Prep role involves reading and interpreting schedules to accurately pull materials, particularly door skins, and prepare them for production. This position requires attention to detail in the organization, measurement, and cutting of skins to meet production requirements, as well as maintaining accurate records and performing quality checks.
Key Responsibilities:
- Material Identification and Handling:
- Read and interpret schedules to identify the correct materials and door skins needed.
- Ensure accurate counts and stack skins onto cull boards in the correct orientation, following the schedule.
- Add and reject cull boards as needed, and inspect and record any reject skins.
- Inspect and return skins to their correct storage locations.
- Documentation and Labeling:
- Record schedule number, line number, stack number, date, and initials on each stack of skins.
- Flip over the top skin on skin stacks to be restocked.
- Skin Cutting and Setup:
- Highlight and identify special cut skins on the printed schedule.
- Measure and set up skins to cut to specific width and length based on chart specifications.
- Ensure a full understanding of all skin SKUs and be able to handle and cut multiple skins (up to 10 ) at a time.
- Use a tape measure to an accuracy of 1/32 of an inch to ensure precise cuts.
- Validate the accuracy of skins before and after cuts, performing quality inspections to confirm the correct count, orientation, and order.
Additional Duties:
- Perform other tasks as assigned by the leadership team to support operations.
Required Qualifications:
Skills:
- Strong ability to read and interpret schedules and tickets accurately.
- Excellent organizational skills to handle materials and skins in a precise and efficient manner.
- Proficiency in using a tape measure (to 1/32 of an inch) to ensure accurate cuts.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle up to 10 skins at a time.
Attention to Detail:
- High attention to detail, especially in ensuring the proper handling, cutting, and inspection of skins to meet production specifications.
Team Collaboration:
- Ability to work effectively with the leadership team and other team members to complete tasks as needed.
Education and Experience:
- High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Previous experience in material handling or preparation is a plus.
