We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Safety Contractor to support and enhance safety initiatives at our site. The ideal candidate will have a strong safety background, a passion for promoting workplace safety, and exceptional organizational skills. This role involves conducting audits, maintaining safety compliance, and assisting in safety training and procedure development to ensure adherence to company standards and local regulations.
Duties and Responsibilities
Safety Audits and Permits
- Conduct contractor safety audits to ensure compliance with safety protocols.
- Issue safety permits, including Core Permits, Electrical Authorizations, and Hot Work Permits.
Electrical Safety
- Serve as a safety lookout during live electrical panel work.
- Maintain inspection records for electrical safety gloves and arc flash suits.
Safety Inspections and Maintenance
- Conduct regular inspections of eye wash stations, GFCI outlets, shop jacks, and fire extinguishers.
- Ensure STOP Audits are completed and recorded in the company database.
Documentation and Compliance
- Upload Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) hours to the company database.
- Assist with developing Lockout/Tagout (LOTOP) procedures and writing safety-related documentation.
- Utilize subscription services to ensure compliance with local safety regulations.
- Document and manage Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
Contractor and Vehicle Management
- Communicate with contractors to verify licensing and safety compliance.
- Conduct monthly vehicle inspections of pool vehicles.
Safety Programs and Training
- Assist in facilitating monthly safety meetings for FS&RE (Facilities Services and Real Estate).
- Work with EH&S (Environmental Health & Safety) SMEs to implement safety and industrial hygiene standards.
- Assist in instructor-led safety training sessions for personnel.
Inspections and Surface Safety
- Conduct inspections of walking-working surfaces to identify potential hazards.
Essential Skills
- Computer literate with proficiency in safety software and documentation tools.
- Strong organizational and attention-to-detail skills.
- A strong desire to work safely and promote safety among team members.
Preferred Experience
- Background in agriculture or previous experience in a research center is a plus.
- Previous experience with Lockout/Tagout procedures, safety audits, and compliance documentation.
- Safety Knowledge: In-depth understanding of safety programs and compliance requirements.
