GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Jail Navigator: This position will be housed at the Tom Green County Jail and will work with inmates identified as having mental health issues. This position will serve as a liaison between incarcerated inmates, the judicial system, families and other resources. Duties include screening, providing assessments, referring to community resources, coordinating services with family members, and referring to diversion when appropriate. The primary focus of this position will be working with jail staff to identify those people in need of mental health services and diverting them from jail whenever possible as needed.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, & EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor or Advanced Degree from an accredited college or university with a major in a social, behavioral, or human service field including, but not limited to, psychology, social work, medicine, nursing, rehabilitation, counseling, sociology, human development, gerontology, educational psychology, education, and criminal justice. (Required)
- LBSW and LMSW (preferred)
ESSENTIAL TASKS
- Demonstrated, either through experience or education, ability to work in a rapid pace environment in an organized and professional manner.
- Ability to self-monitor production and quality with minimal assistance.
- Basic knowledge and familiarity with data systems including business software such as Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Ability to develop productive relationships with individuals and family members that focus on individual specific outcomes.
- Ability to recognize barriers and coordination issues between service systems, and to advocate effectively for individuals served.
- Organizational and typing skills are a must.
- The ability to communicate both verbally and in writing.
- The ability to work as a team member in a diverse environment interfacing with both public and private providers.
REQUIREMENTS
- Valid Texas Driver License required.
- Must not have more than 3 moving violations in the last 3 years.
- Must be insurable on the Center’s insurance.
- Must be able to pass a background check.
- Must be able to complete all MHMR Concho Valley training.
SHIFT: 10am – 7 pm, Thursday - Sunday
Monthly salary: $3,155 - $3,250
