Job Summary:
We are seeking a dependable and self-motivated Legal Assistant with strong organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks. While prior legal experience is recommended, training is available for the right candidate. You must work well in a team, type at least 35 words per minute, and be eager to learn and retain new computer skills. Excellent time-management, organizational, and proofreading abilities are essential, along with the ability to manage paper documents efficiently. A professional phone presence and the capacity to generate emails and letters quickly are required. The work environment is fast-paced but friendly and casual, with a salary commensurate with experience.
Qualifications:
- Preferred: 1 year of administrative or office experience
- Preferred: 1 year of litigation/pre-litigation experience
- Legal Assistant certificate or AA/Bachelor's degree (or in progress)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite 365 (including Excel) and Adobe Acrobat XI
- Excellent attention to detail
- Friendly and positive attitude
- Knowledge or experience in a law office, preferably in the transportation industry and/or collections, is a plus
General Responsibilities:
- Familiar with Litigation/Pre-Litigation rules and procedures
- Drafting complaints and other pleadings
- Organizing/managing case lists
- Assisting Attorney with drafting correspondence
- Preparing demand letters and following up
- Familiar with court rules, procedures, and deadlines
- Familiar with various computer software and programs
- Open to learning and contributing to the firm’s growth
Job Duties:
- Drafting correspondence
- Assisting in responding to discovery requests
- Conducting research using Lexis Nexis
- Understanding of court procedures, calendaring, rules, and deadlines
- Preparing default judgments and prove-up documents
- Filing notices, motions, and other court documents using third-party provider systems
- Proofreading documents before filing
- Collaborating with attorneys and staff
- Organizing and tracking files
- Ability to multitask effectively, even with interruptions
