Physical Education Teacher- High School

JOB TITLE: Secondary Wellness Teacher

TYPE OF POSITION: Certified

REPORTS TO: Building Principal

POSITION PURPOSE: To teach secondary school pupils academic, social, and manipulative skills in public educational systems by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily.

• Instructs students in subject matter, utilizing various teaching methods, such as lecture and demonstration, and uses audiovisual aids and other materials to supplement presentations.
• Plans individual and group activities to teach and introduce concepts in PE and Wellness directly related to State Standards and expectations.
• Prepares teaching outline for course of study, assigns lessons, and corrects homework papers.
• Administers tests to evaluate pupil’s progress, record results, and issues reports to inform parents of progress.
• Maintain discipline in classroom and in other school activities.
• Plans curriculum and prepares lessons and other materials, considering factors, such as individual needs, abilities, learning levels, and physical limitations of students.
• Discusses pupil’s academic and behavior problems with parents and suggests remedial action.
• Participates in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops.
• Keeps attendance and grade records.
• Travels to instruct students in multiple buildings if needed.
• Other duties as assigned.
  
  

Qualifications

• Appropriate certification as required by the Indiana Department of Education.
• Ability to plan and organize
• Skills in human relations.
• Ability to communicate effectively before groups of students and parents.
• Other qualifications as deemed desirable by the School Board.
