Position Overview: The Assistant Principal at Thoreau Elementary School plays a critical leadership role in fostering a positive, inclusive and high-performing school culture that emphasizes belonging for all students. This position is responsible for promoting the vision and mission of Concord Public Schools while ensuring that the academic, social, and emotional growth of all students is supported in alignment with the districts core values. The Assistant Principal reports directly to the Principal and works collaboratively with the school leadership team, faculty, staff, and the broader school community to create an environment that values excellence, nurtures engagement, and fosters innovation. Together, this team ensures that the educational needs of every learner are met, providing opportunities for all students to thrive and succeed.Key Responsibilities: Leadership & Vision: * Promote and articulate the districts vision, mission, and school-based goals as outlined in the district strategic plan and school improvement plan.* Lead with integrity, compassion, vision, and courage to inspire students, staff, and the community.* Collaborate with the Principal to implement the districts supervision and evaluation system for staff.School Presence: * Maintain a visible presence at key times during the school day, including but not limited to arrival, transitions, lunch periods, and dismissal.* Attend after-school programs and select evening activities to stay connected with the school community.* Work with parents and parent groups.
Communication & Collaboration: * Foster open, honest, and respectful communication with staff, parents, students, and community members.* Regularly update the Principal on significant school events or issues.* Build and maintain strong relationships with school-based leadership, district administration, and external stakeholders.Operational Management: * Support the Principal in managing school facilities and services to ensure smooth and effective daily operations.* Oversee aspects of school operations, including scheduling and instructional coverage for absent teachers and staff.* Fill in for the Principal is his absence. Diversity & Inclusion: * Advocate for equitable access to education and opportunities for all students.* Support a school climate that embraces diversity and addresses the individual needs of students, fostering respect for all members of the school community.* Work collaboratively with the district DEIB director and school-based DEIB lead. Student Support & Discipline: * Manage a majority of discipline referrals and work with faculty to implement consistent behavior management strategies.* Collaborate with the transportation department and bus drivers on behavior referrals. * Collaborate with the Principal and the MTSS team to review, evaluate, and revise instructional and intervention programs.Curriculum & Instruction: * Collaborate with grade-level teams and lead initiatives related to curriculum development, student performance assessments, and instructional programs.* Work closely with the Principal, teaching and learning department, and special education director to ensure effective educational services for all students, including those with special needs.Professional Development: * Assist in planning and facilitating professional development opportunities for staff in alignment with the schools vision and district goals.Additional Responsibilities: * Assist in the development of the schools master schedule, coordinating teacher and student assignments.* Oversee the development and management of instructional programs, ensuring that all students receive high-quality instruction.* Collaborate with other administrators, faculty, and staff to ensure effective intervention strategies for all students.Qualifications & Skills: * Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and regulations affecting public education, including those related to discipline, special education, civil rights, and due process.* Demonstrated ability to support and advocate for special needs students and facilitate effective team meetings.* Familiarity with research-based educational practices that promote academic excellence for all students.* Strong communication skills, both written and oral, with the ability to engage effectively with students, parents, and staff.* Knowledge of student support services and strategies for improving student performance.* Strong knowledge of technology and data analysis.

- Knowledge of special education law and regulations. * Experience with specialized special education programming is preferable.* Experience with literacy practices and programs is preferable. * Appropriate DESE licensure is required (Assistant Principal/Principal).* Perform all other duties as assigned by the Principal.
