Concord University seeks a creative and enthusiastic team member to join us starting June 2025 to serve as the Program Specialist for the Southern West Virginia (SWV) GEAR UP Partnership serving five school districts, Mercer, Monroe, Raleigh, Summers and Wyoming County Schools.
The GEAR UP (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs) Partnership is funded by the US Department of Education to increase the college-going rate of low-income secondary school students in these school systems. GEAR UP provides training and support for administrators and teachers at secondary schools with a majority of low-income students and support and assistance directly to students to enhance preparation for post-secondary education. This is a twelve-month, full-time grant funded position, contingent upon continued external funding.

The primary purpose of the Program Specialist position is to lead all efforts to maintain, promote, and support programs and services provided by the GEAR UP SWV grant to cohort students.
- Please note – this position will require frequent travel to GEAR UP SWV counties and schools.
Duties and Responsibilities
Duty/Responsibility
- Project leader for all GEAR UP SWV program-wide resources and initiatives
- This currently includes tutor.com, Student Success Agency, and NCCEP’s Career & College Clubs
- Liaise with representatives from each company, including monthly meetings, troubleshooting, training, etc.
- Primary point of contact for all county partners for all GUSWV program-wide resources and initiatives.
- Maintain all student accounts for tutor.com and SSA
- Coordinate training for all cohort teachers and admin to learn the available resources and initiatives
- Assist teachers with integrating resources into their classrooms
- Create ready-made lesson plans for utilizing the resources in various classroom settings
- Visit classrooms to help students learn to access resources and become comfortable using them.
- Work with Family Engagement Coordinator to provide information and training to parents/families to learn about the available resources and initiatives
- Analyze usage data and compile reports for various stakeholders for assessment.
- Other duties as assigned.
