What are the responsibilities and job description for the Graphic Designer position at CONCORDIA SEMINARY?
POSITION SUMMARY:
Prepare visual presentations by designing art and copy layouts for internal and external communications that are consistent with Concordia Seminary branding and messaging objectives.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Participate in planning and strategy sessions with clients, and collaborate with writers, photographers, freelance designers, Web developers and other staff members to ensure designs accomplish the goals of the projects.
- Develop and execute concepts for various marketing campaigns.
- Design and produce books, journals, magazines, direct mail, brochures, directories, advertisements, logos, banners, signage and other promotional materials.
- Collaborate with editorial and design staff, produce layouts, and facilitate print production of publications including Concordia Seminary magazine, Concordia Journal and other publications.
- Produce Web graphics for the Seminary’s websites.
- Coordinate with print vendors and monitor production of commercial print jobs.
- Manage projects from concept to completion.
- Collaborate with the Communications team to ensure consistency in branding and that the visual identity of the Seminary is maintained throughout all Seminary communications.
- Utilize project management software.
ANCILLARY DUTIES:
- Maintain a searchable and retrievable archiving system for all graphics and digital files on the system server.
- Photoshop and color correct images.
- Digital illustration.
- Assist with photography for publications and events as needed.
- Scan photographs and documents to create digital files.
- Remain current on emerging technology and techniques in graphic design.
Work Experience Requirements
- A minimum of three years of design experience in a professional setting with excellent graphic design skills. Experience in academia or the publishing industry preferred.
- Demonstrated ability in both print and online environments.
- Experience with HTML and Web graphics.
- Experience developing and maintaining digital archives.
- Must be able to work on multiple projects with tight deadlines.
Education Requirements
BFA/BA in Art, Graphic Design or related degree preferred. A combination of work experience, training and education commensurate with education may be substituted.
Technical Skills
Proficiency in a cross-platform environment (Mac/PC) using applications including:
- InDesign CC
- InCopy CC
- Photoshop CC
- Adobe CC
- After Effects CC
- Experience Design CC
- Illustrator
- Microsoft Office
- Font management applications (Extensis Suitcase, Font Book, etc.)
- FTP clients (InSite, Fetch, FileZilla, etc.)
Experience with commercial printing and the ability to set and articulate printing specs, determine proper file format and color settings, and properly format files for commercial printing.
Experience with using digital photography equipment is a plus.
