The Department of Music at Concordia University Irvine invites applications for a full‐time faculty member as Professor of Commercial Music (open rank) beginning in Fall 2025. The Professor of Commercial Music will support music majors in the Commercial Music concentration by teaching classes such as applied lessons, directing commercial and worship ensembles, and collaborating with the Director of Commercial Music. In addition to teaching commercial music classes, desirable qualifications include the ability to teach core music classes such as aural skills or music history, as well as proficiency in an additional ensemble area. Candidates must demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching and engaging students from a Christian perspective and promoting the mission, purpose, and objectives of the University. Master's degree required; terminal degree preferred.
Qualifications : A graduate degree in music is required. A successful track record of student recruiting or evidence of the ability to engage prospective students is required; professional experience in the music industry and prior teaching experience is desirable. Members of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod are highly sought, but any member of a creedal confessing Christian church may apply.
Appointment : The position is a full‐time position that will require being on the Irvine Turtle Rock campus and comes with full rights as a full‐time faculty member. The faculty will be expected to teach courses in the Music Department as assigned. They will be expected to participate in events related to the music major and department, as well as other programs on campus, including convocations and other requirements of full‐time faculty with respect to service to the institution, the academy, as well as church and community.
