Model Maker - Prototyping Shop

QUALA is seeking a skilled and hands-on Model Maker to join our prototyping team. This role involves executing precise prototyping tasks, solving design challenges, and bringing concepts to life in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate will combine problem-solving expertise with craftsmanship using a variety of tools and technologies.

Key Responsibilities :

Develop creative solutions and troubleshoot design, fabrication, and assembly issues.
Fabricate and assemble parts using manual and automated processes.
Operate manual shop tools (mills, lathes, drill presses, saws) and work with sheet metal.
Create, modify, and interpret 3D CAD models (SolidWorks, Creo).
Maintain tools and machines, ensuring calibration and adherence to safety standards.
Operate desktop-scale 3d printers.

Qualifications :

Strong understanding of manufacturing and prototyping processes.

Proficient in CAD software (SolidWorks, Creo).

Demonstrated ability to create complex 3D models in Solidworks or Creo

Skilled in operating manual tools and machinery including lathes and mills

3D printing experience setting up and running a variety of printers

Ability to set up and operate Waterjet, Laser, Sheet metal and manual machines with minimal or no instruction

Small and large part sheet metal fabrication

Creative problem-solver with attention to detail and the ability to adapt to evolving project needs.

Experience creating 3D forms and designs from planar materials

Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Preferred Experience :

3 years in prototyping or model-making.

Familiarity with CNC machining, 3D printing.

BA or BFA in Industrial Design

Experience leading or working in an educational shop or lab

Graphic Design, Fine Art or Photography experience with design and printing on various media

Nice to Haves :

Experience with waterjet cutting, laser cutting, 3D printing, or Adobe Illustrator.

Salary : $35 - $40
