BASIC POSITION FUNCTION
Under supervision, to perform general and varied grounds maintenance work; to do related work as required.
CLASS CHARACTERISTICS
Positions in this class operate as members of a central grounds crew serving locations throughout the district or may be assigned to a crew at a single school location.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES
- Cuts, edges, trims and prunes landscaped areas; prepares and fertilizes soil and plants lawns, trees, shrubs, hedges and flowers;
- Sprays landscaped areas with insecticides and herbicides;
- Cultivates, hoes, weeds and rakes lawns;
- Sweeps and picks up paper and other debris from campus areas, walks and driveways;
- Waters grounds areas by hand or by operating the sprinkler system;
- Maintains sprinkler system and makes repairs that are less complex and time consuming;
- Operates a small power sweeper, sweeping parking lots and similar areas;
- Moves and arranges furniture and equipment for special events and athletic meets;
- Operates and uses various power and hand grounds equipment and tools including edgers and saws;
- Loads trucks with trimmings and trash;
- Empties trash cans;
- Hauls sand, dirt, sawdust, and straw and distributes where needed;
- Prepares, lines, marks and drags athletic fields or related areas;
- Performs general, unskilled duties involved in erecting and repairing fences, mixing, pouring and finishing cement, and installing athletic equipment;
- Services, cleans, sharpens and makes minor repairs to equipment used in grounds maintenance work;
- Operates forklift to move trash dumpsters, as a leader operates the more complex power equipment;
May perform general custodial duties either seasonally or incidental to groundskeeping duties.

DENTAL INSURANCE : Employees holding regular / permanent positions at 30.0 or more hours per week shall be eligible to participate in the District-paid coverage for family dental insurance.
VISION CARE INSURANCE : Employees holding regular / permanent positions at 30.0 or more hours per week shall be eligible to participate in the District-paid coverage for family vision insurance.
HOLIDAYS : Up to fourteen paid holidays per year.
LIFE INSURANCE : Employees holding regular / permanent positions at 30.0 or more hours per week shall be eligible to participate in the District-paid coverage for family life insurance.
VACATION : Employees with one to three years of service earn 12 vacation days per year (employees working less than 12 months shall earn vacation on a pro rata basis). The number of vacation days earned increases with longevity up to 20 days per year after 15 years of service.
SICK LEAVE : One day per month, cumulative from year to year (employees working less than 12 months shall earn sick leave on a pro rata basis).

SALARY STEP MOVEMENT : First day of fiscal year (July 1st) for those employees in working status at least 75% of work year.
LONGEVITY COMPENSATION : Upon completion of 7, 10, 14, 20, 24, and 29 years of service from the hire date, employees receive an additional 2 1 / 2% salary increase.
REPRESENTATION : Classified staff (with the exception of Campus Safety Assistants) are represented by Chapter 620, CSEA.
