Key Responsibilities:
Primary Focus: z/VM & z/Linux Administration
- Install, configure, and maintain IBM z/VM and z/Linux systems.
- Manage Linux on Z workloads, optimizing performance and scalability.
- Troubleshoot and resolve z/VM and z/Linux system issues.
- Implement security best practices and manage access controls.
- Support application deployments and middleware configurations on z/Linux.
- Mainframe System & Infrastructure Overview (Secondary Involvement)
- Work alongside teams responsible for z/OS, CICS, DB2, and MQ environments.
- Provide insight into how z/VM and z/Linux interact with broader mainframe services.
- Support storage and automation efforts where they intersect with z/VM and z/Linux.
- Contribute to capacity planning, performance tuning, and system automation.
- Technical Environment:
- Operating Systems: IBM z/VM, z/Linux, and z/OS
- Middleware & Databases: CICS, DB2, MQ (Mainframe & Distributed)
- Storage & Capacity Planning: IBM DASD, VTS, GDPS Global Metro Mirror
- Automation & Networking: IBM System Automation, Connect:Direct, IBM PAGENT, SuperSession
- Security & Protocols: RACF, TCP/IP, SMTP, FTP, SMS, Infoprint, TLS
- 5-10 years of experience in mainframe systems engineering, with a strong focus on z/VM and z/Linux.
- Proven expertise in IBM z/VM installation, customization, and maintenance.
- Strong knowledge of Linux on Z administration, performance tuning, and security.
- Experience with virtualization, workload management, and automation tools.
- Familiarity with mainframe networking, storage, and security protocols.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to collaborate across teams.
- IBM Certified System Administrator – z/VM & z/Linux
- Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) or Linux on IBM Z certifications
- ITIL or relevant industry certifications
- Work in a specialized role focused on z/VM & z/Linux within a complex mainframe environment.
