Assistant Harvest Coordinator
Fisheries Resources Management

Hourly Wage: $25.66/Regular/Full-Time
Location: Columbia River OR/WA
This position provides general oversight and coordination of harvest monitoring, field sampling activities and reporting associated with Tribal Harvest monitoring and biological sampling of the catch during tribal fisheries. May assist the Harvest Coordinator to coordinate the schedules and activities of up to five (5) fishery harvest monitors in Zone 6 of the Columbia River and YN Tributaries. Assist with planning, scheduling and conduct fishery harvest monitoring, data collection, data entry, in season management, data analysis, and basic reporting. May plan, schedule, and participate in basic fishery biological sampling including but not limited to length, weight, scale collection, recovery of Coded Wire Tags (CWT), Passive Integrated Tags (PIT), and genetic samples. May assist with the planning and scheduling of hatchery surplus events. The incumbent also may assist the Harvest Coordinator in briefing Tribal Policy Makers and providing recommendations for tribal fishing seasons. May assist with the management of the gillnet site registration database.
Examples of Work Performed:
Provide daily supervision of the Harvest Monitoring Crew on the Columbia River and its tributaries within the Ceded Lands of the Yakama Nation.
Coordinate work schedules and logistics for Harvest Monitors and possible Bio Sampling Crew to ensure the necessary data are being collected and compiled accurately according to accepted formats.
Supervise and participate in sampling of landed fish at Treaty Fishing Sites and Commercial Fish Buying stations and record data for later analysis.
With the assistance of supervisors, coordinate with funding entities to develop work statements, deliverables, contracts, sampling plans, and field schedules.
Enter and organize data into spreadsheets or databases and perform basic analysis.
Assist Harvest Coordinator as needed with gathering information to register tribal gillnet sites, weekly tribal catch estimates, and basic report writing.
Prepare memos, briefing documents, letters, etc. as requested by supervisors or Tribal Council members.
Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of basic fish biology with emphasis on Columbia River anadromous species- harvestable adult species of salmonids, sturgeon, lamprey, walleye, shad, smelt- and the ability to identify each species in the field.
Knowledge of basic sampling theory and methods.
Knowledge of and experience with basic field sampling techniques.
Knowledge of Treaty Fishing Areas, Locations, and Gear Types associated with each.
Knowledge of basic computing including MS Applications, Word, Excel, Access, Power Point and proficiency in email and web-based communications.
Ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing.
Ability to work nights, weekends, holidays, and any time during open commercial fishing seasons.
Ability to interact and work cooperatively with tribal fishers, fish buyers, state and federal hatchery workers, state and federal fishery sampling and research staff and the general public.
Ability to work outside for extended periods of inclement weather.
Ensures GSA vehicle provided is operated in a safe manner and maintained according to prescribed maintenance.
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor of Science in Fisheries or related Science with at least two years of relevant experience and supervisory experience
Required to pass pre-employment background check.
Must possess a valid Washington State Driver's License with the ability to obtain a Yakama Nation Driving permit.
Required to pass a pre-employment drug test.
Preferred Requirements:
Sensitivity to tribal culture, traditions, and practices
Enrolled Yakama Preference, but all qualified applicants are encouraged to apply.
