Hourly Wage: $23.28/Regular/Full-Time


The community Cultural Coordinator is responsible for working with program and evaluation staff; children, youth, and their families; contractors; and all other system partners to build a system of care that is anchored in the culture and ways of the tribe. The Cultural Coordinator is also responsible for ensuring that services and supports provided by the SOC meet the cultural and linguistic needs of the children, youth, and families it serves. They will work to ensure activities of grant are culturally competent and community based. They are also responsible for empowering community involvement in all aspects of planning and development of a systems of care model. This position works closely with the SOC Project Director/ SOC Team, and the overall YNBHS Department staff and providers, to ensure broad representation and participation in grant activities. This role requires strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills to engage with various stakeholders, clients, program partners, community groups, and the general public.


Examples of Work Performed:

Provides relevant, competent cultural support services to Systems of Care grant staff, YNBHS Program, children, and families who either request or are require services from YNBHS, local schools, and other collaborative agencies working with the SOC grant.

Ensure cultural support services are delivered with excellence and conform to Yakama Nation's philosophy, policies, procedures, guidelines, and protocols as well as grant requirements.

Work collaboratively with the Yakama Nation's Cultural Resources program to ensure a consistently unified and culturally appropriate program development and sensitive services are implemented in service delivery of the SOC grant requirements.

Recruits Elders, Traditional Advisors and Healers for the provision of culturally appropriate healing practices for client and agency well-being

Collaborate with local cultural leaders, elders, organizations, and cultural institutions to promote partnerships and enhance programming.

Reviews policies to identify change that will improve the quality of service and will ensure provision of culturally appropriate services to meet grant requirements.

Design and implement cultural programs, events, and workshops that reflect the interests and needs of the community.

Plan, organize and coordinate cultural workshops, programming activities and events, teachings, ceremonies, and healing practices for community members, clients and agency staff as required in an effort to promote culture as prevention.

Responsible for developing, promoting, and executing cultural programs and events that celebrate and enhance the diversity and cultural heritage of the community.

Coordinate logistics for cultural events, including scheduling, venue selection, budgeting, and on-site management.

Oversee promotional efforts for events, including marketing materials, social media campaigns, and community outreach.

Facilitate community input in the planning and execution of cultural initiatives to ensure they meet the needs of our communities.

Engages in effective communication with Advisory Boards and other staff to ensure adequate coordination of cultural services and attainment of agency cultural and service objectives.

Act as a resource and provides resources to ensure that cultural knowledge and practices are maintained within the agency.

Ensures that clients are aware of the cultural resources available to maintain their cultural identifies and cultural practices.

Lead or participate in traditional or spiritual practices for meeting or cultural activities as required.

Educate and counsel staff of cultural awareness, cultural sensitivity, and competencies.

Establishes and maintains purposeful relationships with community service providers and tribal agencies.

Perform other duties as assigned.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of Yakama language, culture, traditions, ceremonies, principles, and values.

Ability to communicate in Yakama language and interpret language.

Knowledge of Indian Child Welfare Act and Systems of Care including Nak Nu We sha, Children Services, and Systems of Care.

Knowledge of service development and delivery; the communities and family structure, with ability to incorporate Yakama customs and traditions to these structures.

Knowledge and understanding of, and personal commitment to the Yakama way of life.


Ability to guide and support Yakama people in their desires and efforts to embrace the Yakama way of life and

healthy traditional healing methods.

Knowledge, skills, and ability to help Yakama children and families by providing services in ways that respect

Yakama culture and spiritual practices.

Ability to provide services in the Yakama context of extended family and community involvement.

Ability to influence and facilitate community and group decision-making processes through knowledge, ideas and persuasion.

Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as required.

Knowledge of service development and delivery; the communities and family structure, and ability to incorporate Yakama customs and traditions to these structures.

Knowledge and understanding of, and personal commitment to the Yakama way of life.

Ability to guide and support Yakama people in their desires and efforts to embrace the Yakama way of life and healthy traditional healing methods.

Knowledge, skills, and ability to help Yakama children and families by providing services in ways that respect Yakama culture and spiritual practices.

Ability to provide services in the Yakama context of extended family and community involvement.

Ability to influence and facilitate community and group decision-making processes through knowledge, ideas, and persuasion.

Proficiency in social media platforms and marketing strategies


Minimum Requirements:

Will be asked to write small report at time of interview.

Ability to maintain confidentially. (Required)

Must pass a pre-employment background check.

Must possess a valid Washington State Driver's License with the ability to obtain a Yakama Nation Driving permit.

Required to pass a pre-employment drug test.


Preferred Requirements:

Bachelor's Degree preferred and/or minimum of Associates degree; or at least 5 years minimum experience as a Cultural Specialists, Cultural Liaison, or as a coordinator in Children Services.

Enrolled Yakama Preference, but all qualified applicants are encouraged to apply.
