What are the responsibilities and job description for the Corrections Surveillance Technician position at Confederated Tribes of the Chehalis Reservation?
Job Summary:
This is an entry level position within the Public Safety Department. The Corrections Surveillance Technician will receive instruction in all areas of surveillance activities and must be willing and able to learn the necessary skills to perform the duties of a Corrections Surveillance Technician. As part of the Public Safety department, this position is considered essential services for the Chehalis Tribal Government.
Job Duties & Responsibilities:
A. Observe incarcerated individuals.
B. Maintain direct observation of officers for security and safety.
C. Monitor the entrances, lobby and exterior of the facility.
D. Report unusual or suspicious behavior.
E. Use department radios as needed.
F. Answer phones and take messages.
G. Schedule appointments for inmates.
H. Communicate by email or phone with community or outside agencies.
I. Alert Corrections staff of serious incidents.
J. Maintain a daily activity long.
K. Write reports and documentation as required.
L. Use the VIGIL system to document incidents properly.
M. Utilize all resources efficiently to maximize effectiveness.
N. The Corrections Surveillance Technician will be trained in:
a. Familiarity with department procedures and manuals.
b. Report writing
c. Emergency and evacuation procedures.
d. Alarm systems.
e. Observation techniques and camera positioning.
f. Computer use
O. Must be willing to testify in Tribal, District, Superior, and Federal Courts on cases involving inmates and employees.
P. Observe all happenings within the jail and report any violations of rules or policies.
Q. Must be able to travel to various cities and states for ongoing training.
R. Perform related work as assigned.
S. May be assigned duties under the Chehalis Tribe Emergency Management Plan and Program.
Minimum Qualifications:
A. Education & Experience: High School diploma or GED equivalent required. One (1) year of directly related experience in security observation or surveillance preferred. Prefer experience with American Indian/Alaska Native communities.
B. Skills & Abilities:
- Language Skills: Ability to communicate effectively and efficiently verbally and in writing. Ability to read and interpret written materials.
- Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in many units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Computer/Office Skills: Must be computer literate or complete a basic computer class within one year. Ability to operate standard office equipment required.
- Reasoning Ability: Able to work well under stress and chaotic conditions. Ability to follow directives, as well as policies and procedures. Able to multi-task effectively.
- Interpersonal Skills: Must be able to interact with management, all corrections staff, and various law enforcement agencies including Tribal, County, State, and Federal. Must be respectful, courteous, and friendly to customers, other tribal employees, and tribal leadership.
- Physical Requirements: Must be able to sit for extended periods of time, must be able to hear and understand radio/phone traffic. Requires close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision with, depth perception, and the ability to focus.
C. Additional Requirements:
1. Must be at least 18 years old.
2. Possess a valid Washington State driver’s license and proof of liability insurance.
3. Be able to safely operate a motor vehicle.
4. Successfully pass pre-employment drug screen
5. Successfully pass a polygraph.
6. Successfully pass criminal background check. The following may disqualify any employee from consideration or continued employment:
7. Maintain training and credential requirements per policy and procedure.
8. Must be able to work assigned shifts, including day, mid, and night shifts.
9. Must complete Bloodborne/Airborne pathogen trainings or any other required certifications during the normal training cycles.
10. Complete CPR and First Aid certification and possess or obtain clear screenings/proof of vaccination for the following: TB, Rubella, Hepatitis, and other vaccinations as required.

Pay: From $24.49 per hour
