POSITION: Natural Resource Technician I/II (TEMPORARY)
SALARY: $20.00, per hour
REPORTS TO: NR Technician II/Senior
LOCATION: Nespelem, Washington
Basic Functions: From the Colville Confederated Tribes' Fish and Wildlife Department in Inchelium or Nespelem, this individual will assist with the technical wildlife habitat conservation work for the Wildlife Mitigation Project. The position assists with the protection, enhancement, and restoration of wildlife species and their habitats managed by the BPA funded project. Responsibilities include maintaining boundary fences, constructing new boundary fences and replacing old fences and posts. In addition, any livestock that trespass on mitigation lands need to be removed in the most efficient manner. This position is also responsible for integrated noxious weed control, farm and other mechanical equipment and other duties as assigned to assist with sampling methods to quantify and qualify species populations and habitats.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Training:
- Requires a HS Diploma or GED and a satisfactory work history.
- Requires a Valid State Driver's License.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Be self-motivated and work with minimal supervision.
- Conduct fencing and other habitat improvement projects.
- Effectively handle adverse situations, making appropriate decisions, working calmly, and accurately.
- Communicate effectively to the general public, other co-workers and crew.

Safely operate and maintain project equipment such as 4-wheel drive vehicle, ATV, tractor, chainsaw, and power equipment.

Following applicable regulations and standards to maintain a safe work environment. Remind others of safety practices to minimize the likelihood of accidents.

Use standard laboratory and field equipment (such as herbicide application equipment).

Must be in good physical condition to be able to work and hike in inclement weather conditions and over variable and rugged terrain.

Must be able to repetitively lift up to 50 lbs. and carry up to 45 lbs. while hiking in steep terrain.

Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time (hours).

Must be able to work variable hours, long days, early mornings, holidays, and weekends as the work dictates.

Must work effectively in a multi-cultural environment as a team member.

Requires ability and willingness to work in varying, sometimes remote, locations in all kinds of weather.
Note: Pursuant to Tribal Policy, if this position is safety sensitive it is subject to pre-employment drug testing. In addition, this position is subject to reasonable suspicion and post-accident drug testing.
TRIBAL MEMBER AND INDIAN PREFERENCE WILL APPLY; PREFERENCE WILL ALSO BE GIVEN TO HONORABLY DISCHARGED VETERANS WHO ARE MINIMALLY QUALIFIED.
If required of this position, you must possess and maintain a valid Washington State driver’s license and be eligible for the Tribes’ Vehicle Insurance. In addition, this position may be subject to pre-employment background clearances. If applicable, these clearances must be maintained throughout employment.
