The Distribution Center Human Resources Assistant is responsible for playing a crucial role in supporting the HR department's functions within our distribution center. You will assist in various HR tasks, ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures, fostering a positive work environment, and supporting the overall employee experience. This role requires excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality. The DC HR Assistant will play a critical role in building a positive work culture, driving employee involvement, and supporting change management efforts within the retail organization.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist with the recruitment process by posting job openings, scheduling interviews, and corresponding with candidates.
- Coordinate new hire orientations and onboarding activities, ensuring a smooth transition for new employees.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee records, including personal information, attendance, and performance evaluations.
- Assist in the preparation and distribution of HR-related documents, such as employment contracts, offer letters, and disciplinary notices.
- Support the administration of employee benefits programs, including health insurance, retirement plans, and leave policies.
- Serve as a point of contact for employees regarding benefits inquiries and assist in resolving any issues that may arise.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
- Assist in the development and implementation of HR policies and procedures, communicating changes to employees as necessary.
- Provide support in resolving employee concerns and conflicts, escalating issues to HR management when necessary.
- Assist in conducting investigations into employee complaints or disciplinary matters as directed by HR leadership.
- Coordinate training sessions and development programs for employees, tracking participation and effectiveness.
- Assist in identifying training needs and opportunities for skill enhancement within the distribution center workforce.
- Provide general administrative support to the HR department, including managing schedules, coordinating meetings, and preparing reports.
- Handle inquiries from employees and external parties professionally and promptly, directing them to the appropriate resources as needed.
- Performs other duties as may be assigned.
REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Basic knowledge of HR functions and practices, including recruitment, employee records management, and benefits administration.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and experience with HRIS systems is a plus.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
- A proactive, service-oriented attitude with a willingness to assist in all areas of HR.
- This role is based in a fast-paced distribution center environment, requiring the ability to work efficiently under pressure and adapt to changing priorities.
- Occasional evening or weekend work may be required to support special projects or events.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma or equivalent; Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field preferred.
- Prior experience in an administrative or HR support role, preferably within a distribution center or warehouse environment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
- Excellent organizational abilities, with keen attention to detail and the ability to multitask effectively.
- Knowledge of employment laws and regulations, particularly those relevant to the distribution industry, is a plus.
- Proficiency in HRIS systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit. The employee must frequently use their hands to handle or feel objects and must be able to speak and hear clearly.
